    Hi,
Komplett have Cheiftec cases with 200W psu. Is this powerful enough for , say, Athlon 1800?.

    Cheers
    Chris

200w is definetly under powered. You would want to be aiming at 300w at the very least..........prob 350w to be safe.

You should tell us more about your system, cd drives, hard drives, overclocking, graphics card.............ie the parts that will need the power!!

    Appreciate your interest,

    MSI WM4M/ONBOARD SOUND/VGA

    LITEON CD WRITER

    60G MAXTOR HDD 7200RPM.

That`s it basically, the reason I`m interested in the Chieftec is cos it is small and these are hard enough to get. I suppose I could change the psu but it`s a waste. What do think?.

the system i think you are looking at is a System cabinet - rack-mountable form factor. The 200W power supply may be enough to suit what it needs. ie. how many expansion slots etc.

On a similar topic, kinda. The shttle systems come with 200W. I have my doubts whether it will run a fast chip and graphics card. Can some reassure me otherwise?

Firstly i hope you know those cases are only for micro-atx boards??

They will NOT fit regular systems, like your run of the mill motherboards (atx) . Thats why they have such a small PSU supply'd.

I tried looking up your mobo but came up with nothing, is it an m-atx mobo (really small) ??

These cases are based along the lines of the shuttle , lower power PSU , smaller Mobo's but pretty much regular parts after that.

    Ahh thats more like it......

Your definetly on the ball with the M-ATX , and your motherboard has built in VGA which means a big ammount less power drainage.

If you dont plan on overclocking that PSU should be fine for your system, the fact that its a name brand PSU also makes a difference. Ive seen 400w No-Name crashing systems, where a 300w Antec is solid as a rock. Thats the main reason people say get atleast 300w , theres such a difference in PSU's from brand to brand. Cheiftec arent bad at all.

PS that case is designed for your system , they wouldnt provide that PSU unless it was suitable.

[edit] Alot of the shuttle's use a 200w PSU aswell.

BTW i think they are different from regular PSU's as they are much smaller.

Thank, Col-Loki, it`s on the balance, Komplett tell me if the cpu is kept around 1400 or so that`s ok. the size is important, with an lcd monitor it would take up little space so I think I`ll take chance based on your opinion.

    Cheers
    Chris.
