final fantasy tactics and its close cousin tactics ogre are quite simply the best reasons to own a gba. the depth of gameplay and sheer volume of missons in each put the vast majority of games on all larger formats to shame. ive has ff tactics for a week now and havent put it down yet. tactics ogre is pretty difficult to come across these days especially since atlus never bothered t relese it this side of the atlantic.

wario ware is mental. its fast, relentless and truly mad. most of the games in it last no more than 5 seconds and vary so much. one minute your playing a small section of a track in f zero next its some mental bemani clone going 1000000bpm. a joy to play.

zelda is zelda, its the exact same as it was 11 years ago and now fits in your pocket. you must have it like you must have mario advance 2, 3 and 4(1 is piss poor).

metroid fusion is good but by no means essential. it dosent offer much more on super metroid.

advance wars was the best reason to own a gba now its the second best. hours of gameplay but not not as much fun as ff tactics.

and amazingly ive never played golden sun.

Along with everything else mentioned I'd recommend the 3 castlevania games as well.

Iridion II, Speedball 2, Wario Ware and Street Fighter Alpha 3 all get my vote.

Wow, now that I think of it the GBA actually has a really good library. Recommend Wario Ware, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Metroid Fusion/Castlevania; nice mix of game there.

If you know someone else with a GBA, get Chu Chu Rocket! Fantastic laugh, and it's cheap as chips these days.

*crosses "Using 'cheap as chips' in a relevant sentence" off list of things to acheive in life*

Kuru Kuru Kururin is quite good, too. Although the first games to get are definetely FF Tatics and Wario Ware, absolutely amazing, both of them, and perfectly suited to a handheld.

Cant believe nobodys said mario kart:super circuit so far! that game's a legend imho. also its been said before, but the mario advance games (i have 2-super mario world-myself, its brilliant. yoshi's island has the best graphics)

Chu Chu Rocket is €14.99 in game in grafton street.

Be warned about Super Monkey Ball Jr, its not as much fun as the cube version. Control system is a little wonkey.

    Golden sun = omfg win.

    Seconds that.

Got it Friday and spent nearly all Saturday playing it. Feckin Djinni...

FFTA arrived yesterday and seems way more awkward to control - too much like Advance Wars for an RPG, IMO.

Castlevania: Circle of the Moon is excellent as well, very old skool platformin' & whippin', but with modern magic and nicely detailed graphics. Some of the stainglass backgrounds look unbelievable for a handheld.

Golden Sun is great - picked it up for 30 euro in Mister Calculator off grafton street, about 3 weeks ago.

Also got Advance Wars 2 - fantastic game, don't know about the original

While in the states - picked up Robotech for 10 dollars, some mindless shooting , good fun too.

Bubble Bobble Old and New - saves after each level too.

If you haven't played it before...

    Yoshis Island

The only other ones that I have used a long time are...

    Advance War
Yu-gi-oh Battle City (What I can say it is addictive!)

". Control system is a little wonkey"

yea, left right and up down - **** thats hard :)

Anyway, not a lot of people really got the cube one judgeing by the sales figures..

I have both, and I think its a faithful port, at worst. But each to their own.

It's not an RPG, it's a turn based strategy game. It absolutely rocks IMO - very different from Advance Wars and a huge amount of fun to play.
