Questions for UGC unlimited card holders?

    1. As an estimate how often do you actually use the card per year? And do you find you're going to the cinema much more than before or about the same?

    2. Also do you not irritate your mates/significant-others by always dragging them along to UGC to see a film when they might have wanted to see it somewhere else? For example I used to go out with a girl who had the unlimited card and it meant that everytime we wanted to see a particular film it HAD to be at the UGC. Now All things being equal I'd sooner see a film in the Savoy than UGC but I never got to see the inside of the place ONCE whilst I was going with her. Ruined the relationship ;) Anyway.....

    3. Can you ring up and book tickets for opening nights with the Card or is that facility only open credit card users?

I'm going much more and see - generally - 2 movies a week. So that's 8 movies a month (at least), averaging about €2 a movie. That's good value....

Firstly. why the hell would you want to see a film in the Savoy over the UGC? The Savoy is a sh!thole whereas the UGC has just had a multi-million euro upgrade and looks far far better - have you been since it's done up? I urge you to check it out.
Secondly, it's rare that friends want to see it elsewhere. Anyone I know thinks the Savoy is a skanger's dive so noone wants to go there, leaving the UGC the only city centre option (where we'd convene to meet). The only time you'd go elsewhere is if the UGC weren't showing it (for example when we saw "Max" recently).

No, you can't. This is the biggest pain of the card. If you want a film, you have to get it on the *day*. So if you wanted to see say "Matrix: Revolutions", you'll want to ensure you go in around 10am and purchase a ticket because you won't be able to do it anytime before that. In the UK they have a telephone number but - and I've asked them a few times - there are currently no plans to extend the facility to Ireland. It's a bit of a bummer, but not much you can do about it.

I urge you to get the card, because it's a great way of seeing movies. Yes, you'll see more crap (I'm looking at you "Party Monster"!) but also enjoy films you might not have otherwise.

Cos it's Irish? Screen 1 in Savoy is better than all in UGC but screen 17, if not as good as it. I admit it's not as flash or generally as modern and I think this is a great shame. Cinema is booming in Dublin, Savoy have a geographic advantage being closer to centre and on O'Connell St. I'd really like to see them invest in their building and their equipment. There's far more history with Savoy than with UGC from an Irish point of view and it would be sad to see it downtrodden by a foreign super-corporation.

Having said all that, I am a UGC unlimited member because I found that since UCG offer €5 student rates for all performances, all my mates would go there anyway and I with them. The new building is very impressive, the bar is a great idea and... I like the smell of new stuff of which UCG is full of. The place is very fresh and modern.

If you find yourself already going to UCG 4 times a month, a few months in a row, then it's safe to say that becoming a member will be a profitable move.

What ? Oh no! We all have to walk the extra 2 minutes walk around to Parnell Street to the UGC. What a bummer ! We''ll be to tired too watch a movie now!

And I agree The Savoy is an absolute bum hole. Full of skangers and knackers. The new look UGC is deadly

    Rrrrrr... pathetic sarcasm.

You're missing the point. If Savoy sorted themselves out to the point that they could compete with UGC (in terms of the cinema building itself, the equipment, the facilities, etc.) they could then benefit from the advantage of being in a better location.
