    Folks,

I have Sky at home and have had woes recently.....but I am the end of my rope!

I recently posted that Sky had started charging £1.50 for booking a box office event online and Iwas not happy about it.

    Anyway....

I rang Sky to tell them I was not happy and told them (truthfully) that the RJ-45 port on the Digibox was not working and that it never did......It's one of the older PACE boxes and I am a customer over 2 years....They said that the £1.50 charge was to cover "expenses" etc etc etc.....

    Then.....

Got a call from Sky telling me that me digibox was not connected to my phone line and that it needs ot be from now on - the told me that as I never connected the digibox to the phone line I was in conflict with the contract....I told them - Fine - but the RJ-45 port does not work - they then told me it would have to be fixed and that there is an €85 euro charge for the nice man to call out....

Surely they cant do this - I work in the whole TV industry thing ( for one of their competitors ) and I am totally amazed that they can do this....

Can anyone advise on a good course of action? sorry if this post is all over the place - I am fuming! :(

firstly always remember you pay them.
They forget this and need to be reminded regularily.
Ask them what is 'penalty' for not connecting to phone line. might cause a laugh!
I know I don't ever connect. If its just being in conflict- so what.
to get your box fixed- as far as i know it is their box. certainly the 'free' ones are. so tell them to take it back and then get a new 'free' one? or just cancel account and set up a new one with a new 'free' digibox.

    Thanks UR.

I am really furious about this.....I cant believe they have used my complaint against me!

I think the old rabbits ears may be dusted off soon!

    If you

    Don't have a mirror sub

    Do have over a year

    THEN
There is NO requirement to connect.

If they have changed this then I am NEVER re-subcribring as I don't trust people not to run up bills ordering movies or playing games or other stuff (probabily by accident).

The box is yours from day one.

Only the card is Sky's. It is not Cable TV.

The "free" box even on day one is yours. If you renage on a contract they can't and won't take the box / dish / lnb. They will sue for the money.

Id save my money and buy DVDs or rent from video library. The Box office "Macrovision" is worse than the VHS / DVD variety and upsets one of out TVs something terrible.

Tony at www.satellite.ie can confirm if Sky has done new contracts, but to my knowledge ONLY the first year OR a mirror sub has a mandatory connection (and in either case you can revert to a paying subsidy on install or full price second sub to avoid having phone connected). Some folks don't even HAVE a landline.

I would suggest you take them by the scruff of the neck as follows:

Tell them you are moving to Chorus mmds (if they insist after two years that you must have a phone line connected now), It doesn't matter if they are not in your area.

They will put you onto one of their programme advisors , to whom you explain your outrage regarding what was said to you , who is a loyal and valuable customer.
That should be enough for them to take a different more sensible line with you

/p.s if you do actually move to chorus on account of this, i have the Golden pages here and can reccommend a good psychologist for you... :D

Just got off the phone to a nice scottish lass who was very helpful.

She was very sorry and will see how she can "sort me out" - if nothing else she has calmed me down.....

    I'll see what happens.....thanks guys.....appreciated.
