The guy who drove through the protesters yesterday...

Any opinions on what's gonna happen him ?

I'm hoping he'll be charged with reckless driving, endangerment to life, & actual bodily harm.

Opinions on the fate of the DCC driver ?

None. It is not my decision.

He will most likely get quietly moved to some other office.

Must say that i had a great laugh at the muppet hanging off the bonnet though, he got what was coming to him :)

Yes, I found that piece of footage particularly amusing, certainly a "Kirsty's Home Videos" moment. Although it would have helped if he was starkers.

It was an absolute disgrace. This employee attempted to run down a person exercising their civil right to peaceful protest.

He deserves to be jailed for it.

...& those of you who found it amusing or applauded him... I'm assuming you're in favour of the bin tax (from your remarks), no doubt you'll also welcome the tax on stupidity they'll be placing on you after the bin tax comes in...

Come now, he didnt try to run down the protestor. The protestor saw fit to cling to the bonnet of the van, the employee simply ignored him. The video clip was both magnificently darwinian and humorous. If somone feels the need to grab onto the front of a van thats driving off i think they should be left to their own devices. Stupidity, unfortunatly, isnt as terminal a condition as it once was.

Perhaps, but the muppet hanging to the van also deserves to be jailed for blockading the depot in the first place.

    Driver broke a red light.
Whether you like/dislike the victim, it gives the driver no right to run over people. Its not his duty to knock down protesters when trying to drive out of depot, its the gardai's responsibility to arrest them for blocking traffic.

Why couldnt he have stopped slowly hence throwing the person forward onto the ground and drive around him. What he did was reckless.
Clinging to bonnet helps preventing the person from going under the van hence preventing a more serious injury.

If I was prevented from driving by a protester through a narrow street, first thing would be for me to call the police to remove the person obstructing me, not knock them over as I would be judged as breaking the law. (pedestrian has right of way no matter how it looks!)

Guess its open season now on jaywalkers as well, legitimate targets on my next drive :D

My tuppence worth is the guy was only doing his job.

Those goons on the protest are Socialist party activists who dont give a goddamn about anyone except to get themselves elected.

A large percentage of them have waivers..... I have to hand it them though for brass neck.... thousands of pounds worth of free publicity from the reds in RTE (Duffy and his psuedo concern)

The female jailbird has only one agenda ... get elected to the Dail and unfortunately I think she will.

Its a pity though people don't see through their stupid policies and lack of an alternative solution.

Theyl'l get no "X" from Billy... thats foh shuah!

I think they should give him the freedom of the city :)

I only heard about the story yesterday and I heard that it was not even a bin lorry.

no seriously he will probably get some time off until it blows over.

if the protests start again the guards should be stepping in to prevent the protestors blocking traffic similar to the way Joe Higgins was removed from the street outside dail eireann during an earlier protest. I think the majority of the public would support the guards if they took this course of action.

As anyone that saw the video on the Late Late show will tell you, it was a council lorry not a bin lorry (as in the vehicle they collect waste in), and the protestor was not at fault. He was actually getting out of the way when the driver lost his patience and drove into him. The protestor never had the chance to move to either side, and if he hadn't grabbed the lip of the bonnet, he'd have gone under the truck and probably been seriously injured or killed. And when he saw what was happening, the drive accelerated.

Put aside the circumstances of the protest for a moment. If someone did that to you - say you ran at the yellow pedestrian crossing light and the van at the light ran the red traffic light and caught you the same way - what would you think should be done?

You'd want him charged with dangerous driving and banned from driving for a period of time as a minimum, wouldn't you?

But GV Wright would demand a brown envelope as a bonus for taking the job :D
