Bin Charge Refund?

Is there a bin charge refund for those who have paid and NOT had their bins collected?
Seems seriously unfair to me if they dont get refunded.
After all they have paid for a service which through no fault of their own has not been provided.

They should sue the protestors, it's not the council's fault either.

    Think of it like this.
If you were booked on a flight to hong kon and the staff at the airport blockaded the runway would you want a refund?
No matter who's fault it is, since you paid in advance if the service is not delivered you havent got anything for your money.
    You are due a refund.

What we need to do is take our bins and empty them in the gardens of the bloody protestors !!!

The protestors sre not trying to stop the lorries collecting the rubbish from those who have paid they are trying to force the lorries to collect the bins from those who haven't paid.

Surely, you could use the tags again?

I think, you would also be entitled to a refund (less the shop's retail margin).

I'm fine on this because i use tags.
And i believe tags are the best way forward and am happy with them and paying for my rubbish by volume or weight.

What i am not happy about are the poor craters who have paid up to €600 already and are not getting their rubbish collected.

Why don't we all protest outside Claire Dalys house and prevent her from leaving?? Then we'll get our bins collected.

Its nice to know some come can afford double taxation. I can't. I also don't understand why our politicos get paid so much, then have paid hoildays, exceptions, free meals, supsidesied everythings etc. Every year they increase their salary. Why don't I run for office, because I'm not Fine Fial or Gael level corrupt. Why don't people vote of party that willa ctually do something. Maybe they might be movitated, Imagine Sinn Fine in power with the Greens? Jesus what opposition we'd have then, we'd never hear the end of the state of the country (that the oppostion had degraded it to looking for thier quick bucks and election promises).

Yes you should be intitled to a refund adn not have to pay for your bins to be collected, we already do, in or VAT and PRSI and all those other taxs.

Local Authorities can charge for ehatever services it wishes.
    This is the Law.
We don't have an al la carte law system in this country.
There is nobody forcing people to put out bins.

the reason that these charges are coming into effect is tht yet again FF have screwed us all over again and they despite the susposed cluster of accountants and economice advisors can not get their piorities right.

No more jets and recarpeting offices every year, manage the money correctly and sort out schools and hospital .

They have messed up the books so much and dont want to raises taxes to cover thier mistakes that they are bringing in all manner of charges, atm/laser card tax ect.

It is not 10 years ago they upped the car tax and that was to cover the cost of household charges and you dont hear about car tax being reduced when the bin charges came in.,

    Gross mismanagment plain and simple.

the money for the handling of household refuge has come from the central coffers for the last 20 odd years after rates were abolished and the govnerments of FF/PD despite the celtic tiger have now nearly bankrupted the country and expect us to pay for a service out tax money was perviously paying for.

All well and good, but I truly believe that rubbish should have a price attached to it, purely to make people think before they pollute.

I worked in a fruit/vegetable shop a number of years ago, while there I observed plenty of people putting bananas into those plastice bags that are intended for mushrooms etc. This is stupid, bananas don't need any kind of additional packaging, especially not one that is environmentally bad.

They also did this with many types of vegetables that aren't even transported in any kind of packaging other than a cardboard box.

There is also a huge amount of stuff that can be composted rather than thrown into a rubbish bag.

I heard a bloke on the radio with a family the same size as that of mine (6 people), he was complaining that the council wouldn't provide him with another wheelie bin free of charge. I say damn straight! His family was producing three times the rubbish we do!

So while I support a charge on waste (based on volume) I would also maintain that recycling collections should be free.

Dubliners need to shut up their whinging ffs.
A lot of places outside the capital have had these charges for many years.

I live in Fingal County Councils catchment area and we pay for our tags. We DONT however, pay the protestors to RIP THEM OFF our bins so that they dont get collected. That happened all up my road at least twice.

I find it great that most of the protesters can seem to take so much time off from work to go protesting they must have very understanding bosses.

    **edit** wrong thread :D

A lot of the protestors are involved in the Socialist Workers Party. However, most of them never really do very much that might be considered actual work. ...Unless you count posting revolutionary flyers on lamp-posts, or marching in the latest campaign-du-jour.

You know the way the protestors are being fined? Well, I reckon part of that fine should be the cost of a yearly bin-tag. I, for one, would love the be the guy who drops the receipt and the tag off to Claire Daly.

    :)
