Taxi/Hackney Work Wanted

As the subject states I'm looking for work in the Taxi/Hackney business in and around Galway City.

I am currently working 8am - 4.30pm , Mon-Fri (Finish 3.30pm Fri) and I am looking for something extra to supplement my (crap)wages.

I would be prepared to work evenings during the week and possibly Saturday & Sunday or Friday & Saturday night. Obviously working nights or days during the week would not suit as I have to come in the "other" place from Mon to Fri.

I have a full Irish License as well as the required PSV license. I have almost 5 years NCB on my own policy.

Perhaps (Hopefully) someone might know someone who's looking for a driver or if you know someone in the business in Galway I'd appreciate it if you had a word !!

    Cheers .

Check the local newspapers, as they always have work like that going...

Would you not be willing to get a cheap diesel jap import and set yourself up, maybe even take out a loan, buy yourself a plate and then you can work your own hours...

I know a few people who did this as the only options available were:

1: Rent a car and pay your own insurance
Which means you have to pay rent and then insurance on top of it and that means at least 3 nights work just to cover yourself

2: Rent the car and have the owners insurance cover you.
It is a lot more expensive and again they ended up working a lot of hours just to cover their overheads and not making a whole from it.

3: Buy your own car, get a hackney licence and pay your own insurance, sign up to an office as you cant collect off the street
So again you're clocking up hours to cover overheads..

4: Buy your own car, plate and set yourself up.
This way you can work your own hours, dont have to be signed up to a company and can collect off the street. Also, if you have a few hours to spare here and there you can pop out as much or as little as you want. You do have to cover your overheads but if you have a really good weekend then your sorted for the rest of the weekend..

One of them did it as a part time deal and had 2 other guys working the car when he wasnt using it so they were paying him rent and a percentage of their takings and he covered their insurance for them... worked out very well for them in the end and he now has 3 taxis on the road working 24/7...

I'm not really too keen on the financial outlay of running my own taxi , yet.

A cousin of mine (Of similar age , 27) has just started out and he's paying €9500 insurance as well as having to buy a car.

I have my own car which would be fine for the job (97 Accord) but the insuarance is crazy , I'd much prefer get onto some guys policy as a part time driver and give him 45-60 % of the spoils .

I dont know who your cousin is going with for insurance but thats f*cking crazy money.

The guys I know are paying about €4500 and they are in their late twenties or early 30's...

    He's being ripped off bigtime..

Is he in the taxi drivers union, he should check that out..

There is a website that might be of some help in the way of getting informtion.

Its mainly based around dublin but there seems to be some handy info on it..

    best of luck,

    Tox

Like I said he is 27 but he's shag all driving experience. He bought an Escort 6 months ago just to get some experience under his belt .

Don't know who he got insurance with but he is paying that. he went into his bank and got a loan of 20 g's to cover the initial expenses .

    Thanks Tox.
