What do you like to photograph best?
Landscapes, people/portraits, buildings/architecture, animals, still life, sport?
Whatever you like, get out and focus (no pun intended) on it, and snap away. Then take some shots of other stuff from the above list and see what the results are like.

Get a few photo mags and use them for inspiration; look at some of the portfolios on www.photo.net (you might even find mine!) and again, use these for ideas/inspiration (but don't plagiarize).

In short, buy lots of film and use it.

I like architecture and landscapes i’m just not sure what’s required. I started a portfolio for visual communications in ncad but i’ve gotten so annoyed with it i want to try something different before my head explodes.

Just ask the people you're teaching what they think, along with your classmates.

Once you have that done, then pop into a few Photgraphers studios (or ring them) tell them you're studying Photography and ask them if they could spare the time to look at your portfolio and give you tips & pointers. Most will say no cause they're too busy, but if one or two say yes then you'll gain invaluable information.

    g'luck
