Now that the o2 site is back up and running, anyone else notice that they've halved the free text monthly allowance from 500 to 250.

Thats fine with me as they now allow you to save numbers and send group texts. I never sent more than 250 web texts a month before anyway...buy some credit u bum

I only ever got down to 387 texts from the o2 website, and that was when I had the Internet at work!!! Even when I get to about 420 or so sometimes it just resets itself (in the middle of the month) and I'm back to 500 again! :D

Cheers for the info steviem, was a bit annoying while the site was down.

250 is a much more sensible limit, they should really be making money out of people who use more then that!

Aye 250 is still a damn sight better than what Vodofone offer in regards to webtext. The phone book thing sounds pretty cool although i havent had a chance to use it yet.

it would be handy if the texts actually got sent, they take around 12 hours to deliver from the new site

Bear in mind that you are ripped off for the SM's that you do send.

I got the brochure from O2 last week. For a contract like mine I get charged 11c per SM. Now I can also send/receive data at a rate of 3c per kilobyte.
An SM is limited to 160 characters (bytes) throw in routing info etc. and you could reasonably use a max of 1/4 of a k.

End result: you are charged almost 16 times more to send a text message than other 'data'.

I know that whenever I want to send a short message to a friend to organise meeting up for lunch, I used Huffman coded binary...

Sent a few texts today on www.o2.ie using their new layout but I got no replies which I thought was a but unusual, so I sent a couple of texts to myself to see if they were going through or not...

Well lo and behold surprise surprise I haven't got them yet and it's been over an hour!!!

Well done o2 you've done a great job - now we get a phonebook but who cares because no one will ever get my messages...

At least o2 customers have a ready-made excuse (well sort of) to use with "Oh you didn't get the text I sent you saying I was gonna be late?"... ;)

They do have a disclaimer saying that the texts may not necessarily be delivered. I'm not really sure how this would effect the right to complain though.

There is a difference between them not getting sent and them getting sent a day or two later though. Pure pain in the ass and not really a good way to run a service. Hopefully it's just teething problems with the new system.

I heard (on the internet so it must be true) that O2 in the UK knocked the number of free texts down to 10 per month. Can someone confirm or deny this?

They seem to have fixed it. Messages are delivering pretty much instantly now for me.

Does anyone ever notice that the o2 site is up and down like a rollercoaster? 250 Texts is fine for me, i only ever use about 20 anyway!

Yup it seems to be grand now...

Let's hope it stays that way as I must have saved around a €100 in the last year from using the service!!! :)

In the North here we are only allowed to sent 30 per month  ...

with an option of paying for additional text <i right  >

    30 for £1.50 (5p/TXT)
    100 for £4.50 (4.5p/TXT)
    500 for £20.00 (4p/TXT)
