Good places for Wrestling video/DVD?

    Moved from raw results:

1wrestling.com is the one for me, the ask 1w bit is great.

This should probably get a thread of it's own, but there's a video shop on the quays in dublin (it used to be called celtworld, not sure what it is now), just near where the virgin megastore used to be and they've gotten in about 30 ECW dvd's at pretty reasonable prices, they have some wwe stuff too, but it's mostly just recent ppv's.

It's called Templecom now I believe, and i used to be able to get a ****load of old PPV's there but now with the panda banning us from doing that. One is hard pressed to get older PPVs

Anyone know anywhere in Dublin where i can get my mits on some of the older ones?
I know ebay in the states is pretty good for getting a hold of them. The companies i use through them are inetdvd and longhorn dvd. They're great for getting stuff from 2001 (you'll get every PPV except no way out 2001 which was never released on DVD format) and 2002 PPVs as well as the likes of Hulk Still Rules and NWO Back in Black.

Same for videos, but you'd wanna make sure your VHS player supports NTSC playback. You can get em at decent enough prices but the postage is a bitch, but if ya really badly want the vid, i think it's worth it.

    Any ideas ladies and gents?

Yeah, the little yellow place beside the off licence. It just says Film Swop Shop outside it and looks kinda dodgy. They have a load of ECW compilation DVDs left but won't stock anymore.

After those places, we're pretty much outta luck. it's online buying for those seeking :)

HMV only have a selected few and most of them are from King Of The Ring 2002 onwards. Unless you see Summerslam 99 for €35? I ordered it for €21 from the states (after p+p and conversion from dollars) and while it's a good DVD, it's not worth €35!

Golden Discs on Henry St downstairs have a good selection of DVD and video atm, I picked up No Way Out 2001 and Over The Edge 98 on video €12.50 each, while you can get the double DVD of From The Vault for €25.

Heh, sounds like a good idea. There could be a lot of lists on the boards though.

Lol, next thing you know there'll be a pro-wrestling meet, now ain't that a scary thing considering the age group is mid teens to mid thirties! :)

Well while we're on the subject, I decided to compile a list of stuff that I have on both VHS and DVD formats. It's the list that keeps on growing and is missing quite a few!

I know i'm in a minority when I say this, but i can't sit through more than 30 minutes of ECW without chewing my arm off. Especially the overdubbed music of New Jack (due to copyright).

Mate of mine has a fair few, if i ever get bored i'll clone em (as they're DVD-5, they'll straight copy). But in general ECW never did anything for me.

As for WCW (in case anyone asks), i never received it on TV so you don't miss what you never had. I have 4 WCW vids and the triple cage Jarrett V DDP match was the sh|t, unfortunately the rest was **** (from what i've seen so far).

WWF/E is pretty much the only wrestling i've known for many years, sad as that is. That's just years of collecting I guess.

(wonder how much I'd get if i tried to flog on ebay? ;) )

Another guy that ECW made a star of that WWE and WCW completely wasted. Anyone remember Mr JL in WCW? God, how he must cringe!

and justin credable wtf did they do to him

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,461 ✭✭✭NeroTheExtreme

They put him with X-Pac and Albert!
Have you ever known anyone to go anywhere with those guys?

X-Pac, only got places by clinging onto HHH, Kane was a joke when he was paired with him!

And don't get me f*ckin' started on Albert.

"Ye-oh ya dealin' with da X-facta!" Lol I remember the dire InVasion PPV in 2001, when X-Pac got booed out of the building, which is nothing really surprising, but he was supposed to be a FACE!!

x factor best theme music? the vocalist's whining gets to my head quicker than a neat glass of vodka!

I actually like Glass Shatters by Disturbed, it's the Austin music he used in early 2001, you'll find it on the Forceable Entry CD (if you can still get your mits on it)

any ideas where id get that last nitro anywhere? or the triple cage match u speak of (its news to me that there ever was a triple cage match, but it sounds interesting)

    whosyourpaddy:
The Triple cage match is between DDP and Jeff Jarrett, and it can be found on the WCW Slamboree 2000, which i think there are a couple of copies left in Templecom on the quays.

As for the last nitro, it sucked. There was one good match on it and that was the Booker T and Scott Steiner match. That can be found on the Best of WWE Confidential as an extra bonus match.

Also on the extras on that DVD is the Hart/Bulldog match from Wembley Stadium in 92 and the Michaels/Hart screwjob match in 97. I'd recommend picking that up instead.

PS, your sig. I thought it was supposed to be "do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and good with ketchup", I saw that on a t-shirt somewhere.

Either way, it's a good pisstake of Gandalf from LOTR.

ill go pick up that slamboree soon so me thinks, id love to see the last nitro, if for nothing else but to see shane on it.

its really annoyin the way the current wwe arent releasing wcw tapes. the have such a market for compilations/ old pay per views etc but it will only last fot so long.

i actually downloaded the booker/steiner match from kazaa but thats the only bit of the last nitro thats up there.

re the sig: think i have the quote right, but i actually cant remember where i saw it.

The Shane section was also covered on the Confidential DVD, I'm glad to say it's one of the best compilation DVD's that WWE have released this year. Covers a lot of WCW stuff.

The only reason why booker/steiner is up there is probably because it's been on a number of DVD's and is easy to rip and convert to mpg. That and the fact it was the only good match on it.

I'm annoyed that I can't get older WWE material, especially now as it's all being released bit by bit on compilation DVDs now.

I'm not sure about letting this little secret out (as it'll probably affect my chances of getting future stuff) but if you go to the top floor of Chapters on Abbey St, they usually have WWE videos for about 7/8 euro just past the counter in a little corner. You can pick up really old stuff. My brother has a few of the ones they released in the 80s, you know like 'Fantastic matches of 1989' or '1990's Hottest matches'. They don't have good matches on them, just Superstars kind of matches. But they're funny in a cheesy way, watching Okerlund, Heenan, Mooney and the like.
Sometimes they have old PPVs, and sometimes they even have recent ones. I think my brother said they had some ECW ones too.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,461 ✭✭✭NeroTheExtreme

Yeah, very rare they have the likes of older PPV's tho. Usually just compilation tapes but it's a good place for completists...

is chapters that book/music shop beside the back door to arnotts?

also nero i eventually got the entire final nitro from kazaa, and i dunno how u dont rate the cruiser tag team number 1 contenders match. there were 8 cruiserweights in that match doin some insane moves you just dont see any more. makes me look at shannon moore in a whole new light, the kid can actually wrestle.

as an aside the shane on nitro thing wasnt 1/2 as good as id hoped it would be.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,461 ✭✭✭NeroTheExtreme

Chapters is the one beside Arnotts in Abbey St.
The cruiserweights have been growing on me over the period of time, I just wish they were more spread out instead of being permanently on Smackdown. It's kinda unfair on them because they're the first ones to get their matches cut for time constraints (usually caused by muck from the likes of Ernest Miller!).

And i've had respect for Shannon Moore ever since the incident with Matt Hardy when he ran from him and jumped into a case! Talk about 0-60! in 3 seconds! ;)
