Netsource Speed Poll - Please Post Speed

I know, I know - another Netsource thread.
But this one is hopefully going to be informative.

Basically since a brief disconnection last Tuesday I have been unable to achieve a speed above 15kbit/sec.
    Yes, thats bit not bytes.
boards.ie takes 2 minutes to load.

Please post details of your speed after taking THIS SPEED TEST - I know it's UTV's but we need a standard.
/edit IF LIKE ME YOU CAN'T RUN THE DSL SPEED TEST THEN RUN THE MODEM TEST - remember 8 kilobit/sec = 1 kilobyte/sec

I have emailed them about the situation - I don't believe I should be throttled (I have dl'ed 20GB in 2 months) but even if this is regarded as unfair consumption I wish to be warned and then throttled to a reasonable degree (ie not 15kbit).

Enter the poll so we can get an idea of how widespread this is.

    Those are both good figures.

Might I be so bold as to ask if you fileshare (or download linux ISO's etc) much?

318Kbit - Not bad, got 418Kbit on this test before though. Thats an average out of three tests taken this past few minutes.

How do you know what exchange you're on? I assume I'm on the Custom House exchange as its closest [got 355 kb there and an avge of 180ms to jolt].

Hmm, perhaps caching has an effect on this. Prolly first one is most accurate. That said , am back to max speed on downloads again.

Beats the s**t out of 15kbit i was getting...

BTW> The image above will only work in certain browsers - it's actually a bitmap renamed to .jpg so boards.ie would accept it - IE accepts it and displays correctly.

I'm a Business Customer on the Douglas exchange in Cork and on the test I got:
948592 bytes transferred in 17.485 secs
    424 kbit

I'm a business customer based in Dublin

948592 bytes transferred in 17.844 secs

    415 kbit

I have experienced many slow downs in the past to ~20k/sec for periods of a few days but I never bothered to check whether I was being throttled at the time because it just improved itself. I've roughly stayed within the limits of the new cap they have in their T&C's. Also I was cut off totally for 3 days, for no reason. Netsource blamed eircom and I was finally re-activated. Only for their good customer service i'd be very disappointed.

I do some downloading, but nothing approaching even the IOL cap ...

I seem to find that on my netsource soho (shankill exchange) at the peak times both pings & d/loads suffer on the same levels, notably pings suck - 180ms, and d/loads waver all over the shop from 20k - 50k. - Did the speed test there and got conflicting results each time i did the test - is this indicative of a contended line?

I can almost gurantee that if i do the test during the day i'll get the nice high 400 kbit result.

I guess this will piss me off when i finally get round to updating to steam to play dod again. Since i'm not a heavy d/loader i don't feel the pinch on the k per second, but the pings do piss me off.

Sitting here sobbing into my cornflakes after failing the Amocom LOS test this morning, I find that the above serves to lift my spirits somewhat. Somewhat...

Lets all just hope now that the phone line I just ordered will make the grade. John, I know I probably asked all this before but are you on SME and how long did it take to get installed? Looks likely that I'll be making a decision between NS SME, SOHO or UTV by tomorrow afternoon.

I've been about 3 weeks without internet access at home now. I'm starting to develop a wonderful twitch.

    416.2 kilobits per second

Cannot get the above test to work so used the bandwithplace.com test instead.

Too many poeple with poor phone lines and/or modem issues blame the messenger. I believe only a very few have been deservedly throttled. I'll be off to Esat or whatever by Xmas anyway if the price doesn't come down. Their customer service is brilliant but their price is not realistic.

Alas, thius is not the case with Netsource -

I was on a solid 50 KB (400kbit) connection 'till last tuesday and had been for 2 months.
I got briefly disconnected (dsl disconnect not dead line) and then the trouble started - the same as many here.

Besides 10kbit vs 512kbit is a bit drastic, RADSL mininum dl speed it 256kbit.

I waited for 3 minutes for boards.ie just now...
