How do people in the ROI buy from the many Shopping channels on Sky Digital when only one of them (QVC) give an Irish phone number for ordering?

I never buy from the shopping channels but I know that bid-up.tv accept orders from ROI too.

    Maybe it's on their website..?

    stuartfanning,

The shopping channels on Sky Digital. Have in reality very little do with Sky. They are shopping channels that are available FTA Free to Air.

Most have their own websites. These are usually shown "onscreen" and you can order in a number of ways. The various methods are usually clearly explained on the websites.

Byte is correct about Bid-Up TV. They have a website which is interesting and I have bid for and purchased a number of items of value from them via their website.

If you do a Google search for a particular shopping channels online website, the chances are you will find it, and that it delivers to Ireland.

Yes, a lot of them are FTA, but there is no real need to correct the poster. He uses a Sky Digital box, and probably subscribes to Sky channels.

Sky Digital is the colloquial and generally understood term for a domestic digital satellite in this country, like it or not.

    DMC,

I was trying to answer a question asked by the poster, and be helpful at the same time. Like it OR NOT!.

Paddy, I wasn't saying you answer was wrong or not being helpful, look back.

I'm only saying that you dont have to waste your energy raising the FTA issue each time.

What I was pointing out was that all the channels to a lot of people for simplifiations sake are on Sky Digital. The box you use still says Sky Digital on the front. The EPG is still covered by Sky logos etc.

Don't complicate a simple post, Paddy.

    DMC,

Stop getting your knickers in a twist, over damn all!. You are entitled to your opinion. I certainly do not have to agree with you, and in this instance I do not!.
" You do not have to waste your energy raising the FTA issue "Each Time" ?

I have not got a clue what you are on about, as I very rarely post on this forum. This "Every time" comment is imho inappropriate and un - warranted.

Also finding out about FTA was a great help to me. Why should "Being informed of its existance!" not benefit others as well ?..

    Yours respectfully.

Ok lets clarify the situation further just for you paddy20 and for anyone that reads this and may not be aware.
All Shopping channels pay Sky digital a fee to be listed in their EPG ( electronic programme guide ) They are therefore channels that are part of the Sky platform.
Considerably more people come across them in that way, than do so via the web.
    Therefore regarding your comment:
Stop getting your knickers in a twist, over damn all!. You are entitled to your opinion. I certainly do not have to agree with you, and in this instance I do not!.
You are incorrect, in that your opinion on those channels not being Sky channels is not fact when they are part of the Sky platform by virtue of being a customer of their EPG.
Which brings me back to the original question from stuart
If they are providing themselves on a platform to the Republic of Ireland, they should provide an Irish telephone number for potential customers here, the fact that they don't is their loss and bad commercial planning imho, as this economy is a good one to sell into.

Sorry to drag this topic back on topic :) Quite simply, they don't. I don't know of anyone who's purchased something over Sky Digital. It's just more convienient to do it online.

    And, guys, calm down :(

Of the 'live' shopping channels QVC have an Irish number for ordering and online ordering is available. Bid-up product can be ordered online although you may 'lose' the item that way. Price-drop, AuctionWorld and Ideal World do not offer online ordering so how do you order from them?

    stuart,

I think I will leave answering your question. To the so-called experts, before they attempt once again to correct me.

Just one comment. After many years of buying online, after seeing a product on a shopping channel programme broadcast on to my TV from a satellite or even "via cable!".

I have reached the conclusion that if the shopping channel makes it difficult for "ROI" viewers to purchase from them. Then they clearly do not deserve your business. Personally, I have found that QVC really live up to their name i.e. Quality Value Convenience and they more than satisfy my normal requirements. It is little wonder that they are now just about the largest TV & Online shopping channel in the world.

    Best of luck.

Thank you for totally clarifying our positions. I take that as a slight against our most loyal and frequent posters here.

Apologies to Stuart for the way this thread has turned out.

It's really a simple case that if a shopping channel is after business from the Republic it will (or should) make efforts to make potential buyers have as easy a purchase option as those in the UK. But if they don't it is ultimately their loss. QVC from it's early days recognised a pan-European following of their products and set up a number of freephone lines across several different countires.
