Receiving SMS on PC

    Hi guys,

Sorry if this has been asked before (hard to search for "SMS" as it's under the 4 character limit!)

Is there a way to receive SMS messges directly on a Windows PC?
Or to get them converted to email?

Some advise on any hardware (gsm modems?) and the required software would be appreciated. Would I need a special mobile account for this sort of thing? We anticipate receiving a lot of text messages (eventually thousands per day)

    Thanks,
    Owen

Having a Sony Ericsson phone [T310] and Data cable i have the ability to send messages through Eircsson software via my phone. And also recieve the,. But in practice this does not work. Stupid old ericsson software. When is it gonna be updated

If you use ICQ you can have SMS conversations via their interface. I dont know of anysoftware to allow you to recieve them onto your desktop anyway.

Anyone know of good Sony Ericsson software too btw?

Thanks for the reply Winters. What are those sony ericsson phones like? I need to update my crappy Nokia (the weird one with a music player in it - only used the player once in 2 years!!)

I saw one website which sells GSM modem cards for notebook PC's (basically mobile phone functionality in a PC Card) but the details of the software was scant. I can't see it begin rocket science to convert a text message to a readable text file on a PC!

How do radio stations get listeners' texts and display them on the computer screen in front of the presenter?

Ray D'arcy's Fix it Friday radio talk show comes to mind

If you have certain model Nokia sets you can use the companion software to send and receive SMS on your PC. The software is called PC Editor (aka Data Suite) and can also be downloaded on Nokia.com.

You need to have your handset connected to the PC via cable/IR/bluetooth for the software to function.

The unfortunate thing about ICQ texts is that it's an international number you're sending from, so it costs the person on the other end 25c to reply (ah sure once they don't find out :p)

theres a way to do it on a mac, and you can send them under windows xp (http://blog.lotas-smartman.net/archives/000952.php#000952) but receiving them is a different story. if you find out, that would be handy. i know ICQ used to work well before, but havent gotten it working in quite some time now. pitty. used to be handy!

Have a look at floAt's Mobile Agent: http://eflame.com/fma It's pretty nifty. You'll need a mobile that you can connect to your PC, of course.
