    Sorry for ANOTHER netsource thread...

Did anyone else see this? I never noticed it before. Is this the new thing people were talking about?

    http://www.netsource.ie/html/netsourcepolicies.html

They've got a little table there with acceptable traffic level.

So they are now saying that you've got 16 gigs a month basically.

They also say 4 gig a week.

"Accounts that consistently exceed this level of traffic will either need to upgrade to an appropriate service for the traffic level they require or could have their service terminated or restricted. NETSOURCE reserves the right to impose additional charges for use of Network bandwidth in excess of reasonable or allocated amounts. Customer’s will receive advanced notice of NETSOURCE's intent to impose any such charges."

Soooooo close to switching to IOL.

i see it its about half way down the page says 4 gigs per week .

not bad but if ur speeds for dling at 1-3 kbs then its still not worth it .

Hmmm, they reserve the right to charge you for excess bandwidth yet don't offer a facility to show you your quota used.

I also like the one about using their network to spread abusive language. Better wash my mouth out with soap and water...

Umm it doesn't say it anymore

What's the best software for monitoring? And does this limit include uploads? Anyone who uses BitTorrent will know you can upload as much as you download. I personally don't think I'll exceed 4GB a week, but I'd like to be sure and have some means of tracking.

I don't see the page either.
I'd prefer to have that limit in place than crawling speeds.

What about if I've been throttled will that be reset ?
Better go and get DU Meter.

As a throttled user, i'll accept these new limits for a friggin normal service !
At moment, there is no chance of getting near any limit as its so slowww. Waiting over an hour now to get hotmail inbox page to load !
Will P2P be unthrottled ?...Traffic include upload ?
It says of SME and Premier, 'acceptable traffic level = as required'
What the heck is 'as required?

Great PR from NS again with no info about any throttling/new limits, only from those posts found on boards(god bless :) ) !

oiram, it kind of depends what ur looking for from ur broadband, but generally, netsource isn't the best:

If your looking for good pings, right now (sunday afternoon) 3.50pm, ping is 149ms to clarity.jolt.co.uk. - Generally pings are 50ms during the day, but then are awful at peak times. (As in monday to friday approx. 8pm - 1am & sat/sun )

Downloads on the whole are ok, but do slow from 55k down to 30k or so at peak times.

If you feel that you could live with an 8gig cap, definately go with IOL BB - most on that service are reporting consistant pings and download speeds.

The good news is even if you have signed the dotted line, if the service does suck you can terminate the contract.

This could be a nail in Netsources coffin, all a rivial ISP has to do down is offer 16+ gig a month for a price close to Netsources, with the reality of lower pings on IOL, UTV & Eircon netowrks people would leave Netsource pretty damn quick.

Looks like the number of customers is not really important to them... Esp judging on how quick they've offered to terminate the service.
Which is a bit sad of course.

Have a look at todays Electric News.

    http://www.electricnews.net/frontpage/news-9377714.html

They've changed it to say "There are no download limits for business customers"

So **** the residential users is more or less what they say now lol.

I could be wrong but all there products seem to be Business packages ...

http://www.netsource.ie/html/access_solutions.html << it still seems to day No download limit

wouldn't that be false advertising if there is a cap ... ?

I'd go. I'd had no problems ever until last nite when the pings rocketed to an average of 1800ms. The ONLY reason I'm here now is I would use 16GB a month.

4GB/week is acceptable to me. It's certainly not going to heavily interfere with my downloading habits. Poor Eircom fools are stuck with 4GB/month! If this means better pings and download speeds for those of us who don't leave our computers on Kazaa all day, then it's a good thing.

    I second that.
    I dont believe it.
Did i just see a banner advertising Netsource on boards.ie?

Jesus, they have a nerve :)

They reserve the right to change their terms of service. Even so, 16GB is still waaay better than everyone else.

    Also worth noting is:
Customers will receive advanced notice of NETSOURCE's intent to impose any such charges.

Except NTL (1Gb Cap per day) or Wireless BB where there is no cap. All cheaper than the equivalent Netsource package bu t not as widely available.

Nice of them to move the goalposts without telling anyone, youd think that they could include an anounchment in the monthly bills that they send out rather than just sneaking in changes to the website. Though TBH i expect nothing less from em, customer satisfaction is way down the list of priorities based on my experiences.

Though 4gb is sorta ok, now they just need to sort out the latency and packet loss.....
