Why do RTE drop programmes without explanation?

Does anybody know why RTE drop programmes without explanation before their run has finished? Just in the last month Fame Game on the Run and Delegation on RTE 1 and Do Over and John Doe on Network 2 have suffered this fate. Do Over and John Doe's dropping was particurlarly bizarre. Both were great programme's but both were replaced by little watched wildlife programme's with absolutely no notice (even the newspaper listings that day weren't aware of the change) so ratings can't be the issue. In Do Over's case only four out of eleven episodes were shown and in John Doe's case it was four out of twenty-one. MONDAY USED TO BE COMEDY NIGHT ON NETWORK 2, WHAT HAPPENED?

Ratings are the most likely reasons, these programmes will turn up late night at some stage.

Yes something strange is happening on

    RTE 2
    NETWORK 2
    N2
    RTE NETWORK 2
    ON THE OTHER SIDE

from 6am to 5:30 pm we have The Den
5:30pm to 8pm we have ID
    8pm to 9pm N2 Wild
    9pm to Late N2

What the hell is happening this isn't a choice.

    Bring back Comedy Night.

    Do Over and John Doe's

The adds for both show were enough for me. They should of been on TV3.

They have been axed in the states.
Fame Game on the Run and Delegation on RTE 1

Yes viewing figures for both shows, honestly both shows are for N2 as is Ryan Turbirty's show.

Everything is going pear shape as far as N2 scheduling is concerned.

Note only one new Irish show for N2 the Panel so far this year. It suffers because Batchelor's Walk and Friends and That 70's show etc are not on Monday night. Could the wait for these show to return?

Ok I accept that maybe they weren't the most populour programme's but I enjoyed them and I would of thought that having started showing them that RTE would have finished showing them even outside primetime or maybe on a less populour viewing night like Saturday. In relation to Do Over and John Doe, I was aware that they had already been axed in the states before they began and so were RTE I presume. I wouldn't even mind if RTE replaced them with decent programming instead of idiots like Steve Irwin and his crocodiles. However I agree with you that RTE's scheduling and particurlarly Network Two's has been a mess for sometime and maybe I am trying to extract some logic from a completely illogical situation.

I think I may have discovered at least the reason why RTE dropped Fame Game on the Run and Delegation. Did anyone else see the article in today's Irish Times that aerlingus.com have decided to sponser the bulk of RTE's present and forthcoming Sunday Night Schedule. This deal includes Strumpet City, The Clinic, E.R, The House of Love and Only Fools and Horses. This deal has had to have been at least a couple of weeks in the making. I suspect that aerlingus.com were unwilling to sponser Fame Game on the Run and Delegation and that was they were dropped. To me I think this backs up Elmo's point that they should have been put on Network Two from the beginning. However this know begs the question as to why they haven't been moved over to Network Two now? They could easily replace some of the endless repeats of Friends and the Simpsons. I know these programme's bring guaranteed audiences but I thought RTE had a public service obligation to promote Irish programming particurlarly given the license fee increase they got in the past year and the fact that there is a complete dearth of home produced programming on Network Two anyway.

    A very good question.

Unfortunately TV3 have taken over sunday Nights I think Aer Lingus should have just sponsored The Clinic.

    Emmerdale
    Coronation Street:(
    And Heartbeat
and then the sunday night movie:)

What happened Irish Life's sponsorship of ER?

So RTE drops programs because they have no money?

They need to do more decent Irish Made programming. There is no way a 3m country's PBS can compete with UK TV and Satellite.

    I can't remember the last time I watched RTE1 or Net2.

I actually watch a bit of the Morning News Mag on TV3 (TV3's only watchable home made program?) and occasionally TG4 (even though I know zero Irish).

Irish TV needs to be more locally relevent and not dependant on Imports which anyone can see without tuning the 4 irish Stations.

Actually also signal gone very poor on RTE1, NET2, TV3 and TG4 OK, so must check if it something with me or *really* a low signal.

Not much point about worrying about Irish DTT or lack of Irish TV on FTV or FTA Satellite when there is nothing to miss.

I think RTE should just concentrate on Home Produced Programming and let TV3 have all the imports.

I don't care if RTE don't produce PBS TV just as long as it Irish.

Irish TV = PBS our country is to small for money grabbers in the TV industry.

TG4 are a prime example of making TV not PBS TV but interesting TV that is enjoyable to watch. Their PBS is making TV in the Irish Lanuage no one said it had to be educational or informative.
I actually watch a bit of the Morning News Mag on TV3

    shudder.
