I am about to order a Minolta Dynax 5 from New York Camera. There was a link to them in a sticky thread on this board. I was wondering if anyone has used them and if they've had any problems. I had the exact same camera ordered from Amazon.co.uk but it was 50 euro cheaper on NYC so I cancelled the Amazon order. Any opinions on this company would be appreciated as I am wary of online companies I've never heard of....

    Thanks in advance:)

never delt with them myself, but they are in the sticky for a reason!! If Samson were around he'd reassure you, do a search for ny-camera on this forum and you'll see some praise.

I ordered before you responded.:D I felt the same way, he would never put a site in there he didn't trust. Ordered the Dynax and a Tamrac backpack for 308 euro. I saw the Cam for 500 and the case for 110 in Pixles. It just shows how much we're being ripped off here in Ireland. The cam alone was 315 on Amazon, it goes to prove how good NYC are. Cheers Rob:)

I hate bumping old threads but I may as well put this to rest. New York Camera were superb! I received emails all through out my order and they always responded to any questions I had. The camera and case arrived about a week after I ordered it (it would of been here sooner only for the case holding it up). Everything was well packed and an English instruction manual was included. I wholeheartedly recommend this company.

Oh and maybe the admins could edit the "urgent" out of the thread title...:D

Hi, ive just been directed to this page and NY Cameras by a member on another board.

Having read some reviews, Im considering ordering this:

    http://s28489807.einsundeinsshop.de/sess/utn153fa26167db992/shopdata/0002_Special+Offers/0040_Digital+-+Cameras/product_details.shopscript?article=0100_Minolta%2BF200%2Bsilver%2B%3D23%3D23%3D23%2B%3D2818800344%3D29

Just wondering what payment method you used?

COD seems a safe bet, especially since there is no extra charge for it and there is for Credit Card on a camera of that price. Any hidden snags with using COD?

    Bren

COD is only available in some countries, Ireland isn't in the list of available counteies for this service.

On another note, I ordered a camera of them last monday. I received a confirmation email straight away, but heard nothing from them since. I paid with Credit card, and that hasn't been debited yet.

Also, i went back to the site, and the camera that i purchased isn't on the site anymore....

I thought they were good at keeping you up to date on your order.

They sometimes take stuff off the site when it's not in stock, which is possibly the case here.
Either give them a ring (they have an english language telephone line, manned by a genuine tommy), or email them.
    Telephone: 0044 2382 804702
    Email: international@ny-camera.net

Although they are generally very good at updating you, like just about every mail order/online store I have ever dealt with, you won't always be informed if something is out of stock (I guess they reckon you might cancel the order*), hence, you have to do a bit of chasing yourself.

Think of the money you're saving.

*Could be another of my conspiracy theories!

I recieved lots of emails from them through out each step or the order. They were almost too "nice," if you know what I mean. I had to email them recently about my warranty and they were a little slower than normal, maybe you've caught them at a busy period?

Thanks guys. If i hear nothing on monday, I'll email them first thing on Tuesday morning... Not sure if i'd cancel the order if its out of stock, depends how long it'll be.

I sent them a email on Monday evening, I still didn't receive an email back yet. Can they really be this busy???

i have sent a few emails to them and it took about 3 days for a reply.

also i order a few bits from them lastnight and thet sent a conformation email straight away saying how much to pay so i paid the required amount this morning via swift, then i get a email at lunch asking for 8 euro extra for packaging which i had already paid.

They finally got back to me last Thursday (6th Nov) to tell me it was out of stock and they're suppliers weren't supplying any more. So on Friday I ordered a different camera, and later that day i got a mail that it has been posted out. The money was taken out of my credit card on Monday, but still no camera.

How long does it take to ship from Germany...?

    Suprise, suprise.
They were hedging their bets I'd say.

5 to 7 business days would be reasonable, so you should have your package by Tuesday/Wednesday.
Although, I have, on occasion, received my orders faster.

I finally got the camera today. A Olympus C-750 Ultrazoom. Very happy with it too.
