I'm really getting sick with their sevice now.

Today or yesterday they've throttled down all the ports. The only way to use the internet is through their proxy server:
    proxy.netsource.ie : 80
    Proxy type unknown.
Even FTP speed 1.0 Kb a second.

Outgoing traffic seems to be unaffected although I haven't test it seriously.

Don't even wanna know what will happen with my mechwarrior gaming... Before than pings jumped 100 ms either way.

Give them a call tomorrow see what's up.

A lot of money had been spent on the inet setup:
    modem: 200
    server: 350
    hd: 150
    DVDR: 300

    total: 1000E
on the equipment that otherwise would not been bought.
and a 100 for installation. needless to say I'm pretty much pissed off.

Is there any need to have this many threads about netsource going at once? Is this board going back to the spamfest that it was a couple of months back again?

I am not using the proxy and getting fast http

But BitTorrent is very bad, but had to tell if this is netsource just a slow file.

It appears that they are restricting incoming threads on all ports.

Try open a dozen webpages at the same time to see.

    Outgoing traffic seems unnaffected.
Incoming traffic seems to max out around 120-200kbits at most - this is from a single threaded connection.

This would seem to be an attempt to kill filesharing.

It is backfiring though and affecting all internet usage.

    Talked to them today.

Yes, the cap was introduced on me. It is subject to "2 months review" which is a joke of course. Hell, I've using a service for only 2 months. Not that heavy download. Prolly 100 gig ball park. I'm trying to get a paper letter from them describing the technical restrictions introduced, reasons why it was introduced and the possible options.

Guy over the phone has said "16 gig is probably the reasonable amount". He also added: If you want to cancel it's fine by us. Since it's a hearsay can't be used as a proof.

From the looks of things they are trying to get rid of residential customers who download heavily. Without even bothering to hide it. If they just told their customers that instead of a "No download limit" they have 16 gig limit.

In stort words I do not like it. Gonna call to customer affairs and Advertising Authority. The difference between "No download limit" and "If you go over 16 Gigs - we'll stop your service" is pretty clear to me. Like you sign a contract for an unlimited apple supply and after two months enjoying apples, you'll find out that in fact your allowance is only 16 apples per month, after that you'll be getting leftovers.

Of course I'd appreciate any help I can get from the people in similar position.

Just noticed that Thomasb is browsing the broadband forum at the moment, He's the guy from netsource who posted here a few times in the past. So Tom, how about an explanation, why is your high priced DSL product doing a "brick at sea" impression at the moment?

A few straight answers would help a lot.

I looked briefly on their website to find out their area of expertise. But it seems like it doesn't.

He's a tech guy, there's no reason why he should have to explain the actions of the company he works for. If I were him I'd be steering well clear of this debate too.

Yep, i have tried alot of proxies including the NS one to try to get web working, no joy.
Without proxy, some web pages take 5 min to load if they do at all. P2P is nearly dead, they must of taken note of all the ports that every single P2P programs use :)
Maybe we are not allowed to use http proxies anymore because they can be used in some P2P programs

Service was grand before tuesday(well since last throttle), this throttling is a new low level of service.
Wonder if this reply will make it at all with its snail speed to boards ! :)

I rang Netsource today, what a waste of quarter of an hour of my life. Like trying to drive nails using a black pudding!

Got put on to the Sales person, Kevin. The same Kevin that promised me so much when I signed up in June (I can definitely see a Sale of Goods Act 1980 breach there Kev).

Aparently it was all my fault that my total bandwidth is now 1.7k/sec. I should have known that I was downloading too much that that I would have have my speed curtailed. I told him I had received NO communication from them as regards my downloading or throttling.

Aparently according to my friend Kev unlike other companies, Netsource don't have a cap. That is they don't charge you if you exceed a limit (just limit your speed)
They are implementing an Acceptable Usage policy as of Friday where they "suggest" that users download less than 16GB per month. And users will be reviewed in a few weeks,

I asked to speak to the manager because this level of service for a business product was unacceptable. I was told blankly there was no point, and wasn't given any details.
When I asked about termination of the contract, he couldn't hide his glee.

Well I'll be ringing Kevin again tomorrow. That should "exhausted all levels of the service providers internal complaint handling process". So tomorrow evening I'll be logging onto http://www.comreg.ie/sections/complaints_form.asp

I'll try 8 or 9 over the weekend. I'm on the Custom House Harbour exchange (I assume. It's the closest to me in the IFSC).
Worst pings I've ever gotten is average about 180ms and very rarely a packet loss.

I've a feeling that 16Gig is for total traffic, including upload.
We were told at the start of the month that if we "stay within 1Gig a day" we would be pretty much ok.
So we did. Religiously, which was even confirmed in a phone call on Wed. Unfortunately (for them :f33r:) the "limit" included uplaods aswell (something they never mentioned earlier when pushed for a figure/guideline) and that the "limit" is more like 14Gigs per month.
I asked to speak to the manager because this level of service for a business product was unacceptable.
It is a SOHO product and yourself and quite alot of people including myself signexd up to it intending to use it for that purpose. It is no longer possible to use it for it's intended purpose, it is definately not "unlimited" and that promotion on enn.ie clearly and explicity states that there are no penalties for heavy users when in effect there are. I'm pretty sure being unable to use the conenction for the purposes intended due to artificial traffic manipulation by the supplier (with or without that clause in the contract) breaches the Sale Of Goods Act 1980, not to mention the advertising standards.
