employee pay rights?

    just a quick question. where i work i get the part-time rate of pay as (funnily enough) i work part-time. but someone who used to work full-time and now only works part-time (theyve started going to college) still gets the full-time rate because apparantly it is illegal to lower someones rate of pay. is this correct? or can i complain at all for getting paid less for doing the same work?

    Afair, the contract you sign is the contract you sign.

    If he signed a contract saying 'your wages will be x per hour' then they can't lower that without his agreement.

    It's a lot of red tape. You may be a "Temporary, part-time employee", whereas he may be a "Permanent, part-time Employee" on paper.

    In my (now old) job, there were full-timers and part-timers. Full-timers get paid more than part-timers, and are paid overtime for working weekends. However, half of the people on during the day are part-timers on paper, and are liable to work any hours during the week.

    If you joined the company as a part-time employee, being paid x per hour, then that's where you stay afaik.

    I'm sure someone who knows more about it will clear it up for you though.
