NTL doing business again!

    Whoopee! (and other childish noises!)
I got home this evening to find a card from ntl in the letterbox, addressed to me, (so not the wrong area), offering Broadband Internet. I examined it carefully, checked the date (not April 1) and read it again. It did not look like another reseller of eircom, as it had the Always On 600 and 150 speeds which I knew were cable speeds. So I phoned them, even before taking off my coat.

The woman who answered had not heard of my area having internet available, so she went off and checked. Sure enough, it was true, so I instantly gave her the go-ahead to order.

I am in Crumlin, and I knew that a fibre line was run by ntl through much of the "Corpo" are between Kimmage and Crumlin village. But that was two years ago, and ntl have been dormant since. Possibly eircom's aggressive marketing has woken them up.

I was offered a connection on any day next week, and settled for Wednesday, as I have the day off. I have eircom i-Stream Solo (€89+VAT/mth), so this will be a better service for less than half price. Also, no cap, although to be fair eircom never implemented it, even when I was naughty and did the odd 40GB month.

So, any of you in Crumlin, if you didn't get a card, ring ntl and check (1800923005). There's a €65 install charge, modem is free, €40/month for 600/150 speed and no cap. I was told I would not need to pay anything up front, as it would all be "on the bill".

    Magic, magic,magic.

I got the 600K package from NTL on 12th August- so far so good, but one tip I would recommend is that you use the proxy 62.254.96.5 as this has improved my D/L speeds from 380Kbps to 545Kbps
There was a good discussion on the boards last week in this BB forum about NTL speeds that is well worth checking out .
I hope you are going to let the rat know in rather unambiguous terms why they are being dumped-One of these days I think I could get to like competition

I am on the Kimmage/Crumlin border and I just got off the phone to NTL, who were very bitchy when I asked them to double check the account. I was told in no uncertain terms that Broadband is not, and would not for the forseeable future, be available to me. I am now really peeved.

Ok, I'm going to try one last time. Could anyone who has NTL broadband in the Kimmage/Crumlin area please post here. I think they may have a problem with my address since the previous tenants left without paying bills (owing >E250 to NTL). I am on Kimmage Road West so if anyone has NTL broadband in that area I would love to hear from them.
