Does anyone have an Irish card they no longer use? I can pick up Irish TV and radio here in Copenhagen, Denmark.
I run a website dedicated to helping those ouside the Astra 2D footprint, to recive this satellite. I have very little knowledge of Irish TV and would like to help the Irish in exile.
Please mail me if you have an unused working card (for RTÉ TV etc).
    Thanks

    Cool site Expat. Respect.;)
About the Irish card, you have to be subscribed to BSkyB on the "Family Pack" or higher
in order to receive the Irish channels. The last time I checked (Spring), an enabled Irish Family pack sub worked in multiple Digiboxes for the Irish channels. But once the subscription is cancelled, the Irish channels are re-scrambled. (Regardless of which box the card in inserted).

Yep, I found this MTI, cheap lnb (£20), much better than the expensive Syntec which is not worth the money. The MTI drasticly increased the signal, and my viewing time out here in the outter limits of Astra 2D. The Irish transponder is actually one of the strongest, shame I can't see the TV.
Can't understand why the Irish language tv channel is encrypted, there can't be any copyright probs there. Welsh S4C gets away with it FTA all over Europe.

TG4 tend to show a lot of 80's and 90's movies which are still within copyright. Also they show GAA (Setanta have the UK rights)
and Rugby (BBC and Channel 5 have the UK rights).
So I think there is a slight rights issue.:(

Living in amsterdam and know nothing about satellite technology but i was told you could get RTE etc here by buying a subscription in ireland to BSKYB and bringing the digital box over here. is it still possible>?i read something about telephone connection being require in ireland. is there a way around this? where should i go and what would be a reasonable price to pay for decoder, disc, the whole shabang?

This can be done if you have an Irish address but you will have to pay fulli i.e non subsidised cost of digibox.

Yes you should buy the receiver in Ireland and get the card activated and then get someone locally to sort out a dish for you. You will need to do to an independent dealer as the like of Dixons etc will not do this for you.

Might be better off buying a box from ebay which would be out of contract and much cheaper.
