    Hi,
A friend of mine has a technical interview next week for a job in Dell technical support. I was just wondering if anybody has gone through the Dell techincal interview or a similar type of interview. She has no idea what sort of stuff she'll be asked and wants to be as prepared as much as possible.
    Hope you can help.

If it's anything like the one I did then it's very good mixed. Lots of questions about how you would diagnose particular problems, they seemed to ask a lot of laptop oriented stuff, like what do you do if the display on a laptop goes dead.
There was a written test too (but she should know already if she has to do this or not), some of the questions were stuff like what speeds do various devices transmit at, eg. usb, keyboard etc....
Stuff like identifying which type of memory this is etc.

    ive done two.
i did one years ago for the technical support type person which is pretty easy if you know your stuff. it was just a fill in the blank space type thing. dont know if its changed, that was about 5 years ago.
the other one was about 3 months ago for business pre-sales engineer, and it was obviously a lot tougher :)

dell like tothink that everyone wants to work for them.
look at the web site. get the stats on the company. find out waht it did in the last year, and how it is fairing against ibm and hp/compaq.
sell herself like crazy. she was the best at everything, and she can do anything. dell like people who sell themselves, but make sure that while she is leaving, its because of good reasons like she feels she is not fulfilling her potential, but with a company like dell, she feels she will get the chance to do whatever she wants.
    that sort of stuff.
at the end of the day, working dell support is a good way to further things, and to be fair the company does look after its own.

but again, for technical interview, know all there is about hardware and software :)
will probably need to have answers for difficult customers and problem solving as well.
    good luck
