    MSI 6380e (kt3 ultra 2) motherboard

    Athlon xp 1800

    256mb pc2100 twinmos ram

    coolermaster fan

Was working fine in my old chassis, sell it to a friend, now it wont work in his PC, beeps on startup and monitor doesnt load, ie it doesnt perform self test, just goes completely blank.

    Tried resetting cmos without luck.

    Any ideas?

i haven't looked up the beep codes, but has he tried building it out of the case? Sounds like the board may be shorting off the case, he probably hasn't mounted it properly.

I'll ask him, plan was to try it outside my new case with my new psu when they arrive.

    How many beeps are there?
If there are a few then its the GFX card. Try that.

oooh, I had exact same prob.
Turned out it was a bolt on the case underneath mobo where the mobo screws onto (but didn't line up so wasn't used).
It was touching mobo & shorting it. Just unscrew it and throw it away (if thats the prob).

the only other thing that i could find is the might have to replace the mainboard if replacing the ram does not help. i will have a look around for more solutions, but that was the only one that i can remember from doing my A+ two years ago.:(
