    ok here is the scenario

Im gonna get dsl from eircom(im in cork so i have no choice ok!!)

gonna take there free dsl modem and goona gett a router with wireless capabiltiy like the one below

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00008DOYO/ref=br_lf_ce_6/202-6579572-4316601

gonna buy an Airport card for the ibook so it can connect via wi-fi to this broadband network(there will be 2 PC's directly connected too)

but the compatibilty is the major problem here
will the linksys wireless router be able to pick up the the i-book!!

and/or will the Airport card be able to detect the router sending out the broadband signal

since there both tcp/ip enabled i cant see a problem but i just want to double check to make sure before i order off amazon!!

    please say yea!!

haven't tried with that particular AP sorry - but linked to many differnet APs on my travels with the iBook - without any hassle (so far!)

a good place to ask / search would be in the Apple Support > Discussions > Airport > Airport for Windows

    http://discussions.info.apple.com

Yep AirPort is based on 802.11b (802.11g for Airport extreme) with a Lucent chipset, this is completly inter-operable with any other 802.11b equipment on the market, thats the beauty of IEEE standards :)

I've never had any difficulty getting my ibook onto any wireless networks that I've had to use, it's very straightforward and completly integrated into os x.

although going the other way around - an Airport Base Station with PC clients can throw up a few spanners - but all manageable with a bit of tweaking :)

I can confirm that THIS Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router works with my powerbook and it's a nice router/ap too. Those antennas are removable so you can connect to http://www.irishwan.org should you want to.

As mentioned above the 802.11b and 802.11g protocols are platform independent.

In general, the Airport card + drivers are among the most versatile I have seen... my college are moving from WEP to LEAP. I'm the only person in the office who won't have to buy new hardware :)
