Player Registration

    Unusual article in todays Mirror:

    http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/allnews/content_objectid=13470058_method=full_siteid=50143_headline=-COOPERATE%2DWITH%2DTHE%2DPOLICE%2DOR%2DFACE%2DTHE%2DBOOT-name_page.html

In it, the chairman of the club alledgedly involved with the current crises is meant to have stated : "..that any player proved to be there on the night in question would have his contract terminated. The club would retain the player's registration, which they are entitled to do by law, preventing them from playing for any other club and effectively ending their careers".

What are the rules about players registrations - I can see if a player ends up in jail then his contract can be terminated, but can a chairman terminate a contract and still hold onto his registration (and refuse to sell him?)
