I see in the UK, NTL have managed to add Sky Sports Extra to the package on the digital feed. Also they mention working on getting the interactive stuff sorted. Mostly motivated by Champions League.

Any one tell me what the story is here in the back water?

Not sure how that affects NTL's plans for Ireland, but it has to be good news. I think the general trend is that services introduced in the UK eventually end up making it to Ireland a year or two later.

Lets hope thats the case here, as I'd love to have SS Extra added to the NTL line up here.

Yep, good news for NTL customers but no news as to when for Irish viewers..

I think there's a good chance of us getting it as I am sure ntl Ireland know it would be a good selling point. However I doubt it will be here for a while yet.

As for it being interactive, it might be interactive in the but only in ex-cwc areas in the UK. Origional areas in the UK have the same sofware as us here ATM which cannot support interactive features. (This is expected to change in the coming months)

Well actually, there is some support for interactive features in the current NTL UK (ex-CableTel) software, but its mainly a walled-garden of TV-internet sites. (For example, there's a version of BBCi Text available). AFAIK there is little or no multi-screen features (a la Sky) available though.
