Another Marvel Atrocity? *Major Spoilers*

Have Marvel commited another attrocity? As far as I knew, Magneto was dead, and we had seen the last Magneto story way back in New X-Men 132, which incidentally didn't directly involve him. Now, it's being revealed that Magneto was actually Xorn in disguise, and Charlie loses his legs yet again.

What a surprise, we're back to the status quo basically, the X-Men will beat Magneto, Xavier will be in a wheelchair, and they'll have to live with the fear of the return of the Master of Magnetism another day. Joy! Or is it?

Will something differant be done with the character this time? I had hoped when I heard he was dead, that he would stay that way unlike so many other characters. Marvel even officially stated that as above New X-Men 132 was the last ever Magneto story. Looks like they've gone back on their word, again.

    Thoughts?

Im not sure what to say, ok granted Magneto was getting boring, but he was they Xmens stereotypical arch nemisis. He provided a great background to insight into so many characters.

But i do agree that once he's dead he should stay there. Could have been worse though, they could have used some age old technique of pulling him from another dimension, at least they've decided to be almost blantently obvious and saying they made a mistake adn have changed their mind...

What i dont get is why is it always the "bad" guys that get brought back to life??? What are the chances of say , oh i dont know, Cyclops coming back????

I don't like Marvel killing off characters, and i'd rather they incapasitate them for a while, but I don't agree either with them bringing people back from the dead. I think it patronises the readers. If you're going to kill someone off then do it. Don't bring them back - but consider who you're killing off first. Magneto and characters like him are loved by a lot of fans, if you kill them off you'd pretty much kill off the fans of that character as well.

I'd rather you keep that to a PM to me so as not to stray off topic again, but for the benifit of yourself and anyone else who isn't familiar - trolling a thread is posting off topic or pointless comments which serve to undermine the thread and/or lead it off course or results in flames. Ie insulting other posters or posting comments relating in no way to the thread itself.

We have a load of threads relating to different issues and nobody is restricted from starting a new thread if they want to talk about something new, so try and keep it on topic as much as possible.

    Thanks

Just how many times have marvel killed off different characters anyway. OK so MAYBE sometimes it may have been to further a plot, bu come on... how many times has Jean Gray died? and now cyclops? we'l find out this week (i think isnt it?) just how dead the poor guy really is

Well personally I like the Magneto character - he's grown on me over the years, and I think he's essential to the mirror version of the Charles/Eric friendship/dream motif which has been in the comic since day1.

He was great as a clone in the whole Onslaught saga and my fondest memories have to be the first 3 issues of X-men (the new series). That was about 11 years ago now but it still sticks in my head - the image of magneto above the earth pitching it into darkness as an electromagnetic pulse disrupts all electricity on the planet. Ah the good times...

I think until you have seen the character to die empailed on a spike with there eyes open, and blood coming from there mouth there never dead! ven still theres loads of dimensions out there to keep them goin and goin and goin..................................

See i too was under that belive... but loked what they did when they convinced us they'd killed Wolverine!!!!! he got a fine hefty sword in the gut.. that not dead enough for?( oh big deal so it wasnt him but you didnt know that...or at least you weren't supposed to)

A sword wouldn't kill wolverine. Decapitation on the most part would be the only thing to kill him, as in the age of appocalypse sabertooth had wolvie's claws through his heart and he still lived. Sabertooth even had wolvie's claws through his eyes straight into his brain in the regular series, and he lived.

Lets see what else...in his own series around issues 65-70 or whatever, he's slaign an entire heard of T-rex's and used their carcases to climb out of a huge pit. He's had adamantium ripped from his bones and was close to death then stands up and saves Jean Grey from falling out of the X-Jet. He's had a building drop on him when he was brainwashed into being death for appocalypse. He's also been burnt alive jumping from a plane, and has had loads of life threatening injuries and has come back to smoke another stogie :D

so basicly everyone, is immortal even when there dead they can come back!!!! i missed when cyclops died(drop off the face of the planet for a while) wat happened???

I don't remember where he was but when he came back he was changed somehow. He was a bit less uptight, which again is a character change I think has ruined him to a degree.

He's back already??? Im reading the uk xmen and the search for him is only happening now.?

ok so heres what you missed:

When apocolypse managed to gather the 9 strongest mutants he was use the monolith to tranfer all their combined power into Nathan Summers, then he was gonna jump himself in to Nate's body and thus become the most powerful being. but just as he was about to jump into nate, good old boy scout Cyclops jumped in instead and so apocolypse transfered himself to cyclops body.
Xavier couldnt read anymore of scots existence. jean stil thinks hes alive somewhere inside apocolypse, this all happened about 5/6 issues ago.
    hope that clears things up

The UK X-men must be ages behind because that all happened about 2 years ago. The issues were around Uncanny #377 and it's now up to Uncanny #435/436. Maybe it was more than 2 years ago. It might have been 3 but I can't remember.

Now the idea is that the gathering of the 12 had already been predicted by Destiny in a set of volumes of diaries she kept of images she saw in the future. The X-men currently have at least 1 volume of these diaries and they're trying to find the others.

There are thoughts from the team that they would be better not to find them as they shouldn't know their own future, but they also want to keep them out of the wrong hands. So basically everything else in the meantime has been pointless crap that doesn't seem to be leading anywhere.

Bringing characters back from the dead isnt a unique Marvel flaw ...
