Got Europe-on-line to try make some use of the lidl dish.
LNB is universal (ie. digital compatible)

    Received a pci card.

Anyone here got a SkyStar 2 card to work?

I get a green 85% signal strength - but I dont seem to be getting
any data - all the status show is

Network: Signal 85%... Acquiring..... No Information

I've tried both the Europe On Line custom software and the standard TechniSat drivers.

No TV stations work - no data at all.

Any help??? What should I be seeing in the status boxes??

    Cheers,
    Ozmo.

Got it working - hint : when the badly translated manual asks you to enter the serial number on the white sticker on the card - it doesnt mean the white sticker on the registration card - it actualy means you have to take your pc apart again to to read it off the white sticker on the PCI Card !! Took me two days, several installs, a reference driver install and an hack attack with an eeprom editor before I coped that one.

Anyway - almost all works - no digital tv working yet - but heres what I have:

    Uplink = Netsource Solo Residential (512/128) - ~75 e/mth
Downlink = Europe On Line Satelite- less than 9 e/mth

IE Reports: 93 kbytes per second !!! :)
(thats about 745 kbits per second!)

Dumenter Reports the full amount being downloaded ie: 8mb/s

745 kbs download speed for 8 euros 25 cents per month!! - Brilliant. The way it should be :)

I just had a look on their webiste. The terms and conditions are confusing me. How much can you download for 9.90 a month?

If I saw it right, you can download 700 MB from the web, and Surf 2 GB. Is that right ?

    THX,

There are two main parts to a standard europeonline subscription ..

    1) The download cap..is 2gb full throttle..speeds off peak can be very fast in the >100k range . Post 2gb, its best effort, which in theory should mean really slow, but most ppl still manage to get very decent 30k + download speeds from it.

    2) The file fetch limit, this is an offline download service, you paste the urls to whatever it is you want, EOL "fetches" these for you, when its finished, you can schedule it to be beamed down to you at your convenience within the next three days (at full 2mb speed) . This is currently offered @ 1gb, though you can purchase "addon packs" that increase this to 5gb.

Have a look at eonboard.net for pretty much everything under the sun to do EOL.

Have a weather station?, why not join the Ireland Weather Network - http://irelandweather.eu/

Dont know if its normal - but I have 1G web download credit for the month on the 1 month trial I got.
Thats anything that you can specify a Proxy Server for (IE,Email, I'm told Kazaa works also...)
Stuff comes in via this a 740 kbs - but I have noticed a very slight delay before a web page starts to download - then its all there at once. Very fast.
Pings and stuff you cannot specify a proxy for go via the normal channel.

Still havent got the Digital TV to work - that looks good also with about 100 channels. EOL also stream a few channels - old films etc. and that works well. They also constantly stream files - mostly quicktime trailers and game demos - sort of thing you get with magazines. The tv streams and broadcast are free to collect and dont form part of the download allowance.

    Fun stuff :)
