I recently dumped Sky since I got an FTV card from the UK.
With the FTA card I was able to get all the BBc's, ITV west, Ch4 & Five. Since Sky was disconnected the FTA card no longer works!!
With no card I get BBC 1 & 2 on Ch.214/5 but 3 & 4 have to be manually tuned. Can I de-programme the box?

Have you tried going into the full EPG (TV Guide button, press any option (eg 1 for ALL Channels) after putting in the FTV card (I have to do this most times to change the EPG)?

Might be worth trying a reboot of the box with your FTV card inserted if that doesn't work.

    Hi Peter.
A little confusion here. You said you have a card from the UK, and
you have recently lost BBC3 BBC4 ITV-1 Ch4 and Five.

If you still have your UK card in the Digibox, BBC1 and BBC2 should be on EPG 101 and 102 and not 214 and 215 as you stated.
The Numbers 214 and 215 are only used on the Irish EPG for BBC 1 and BBC2 (NI)
Likewise BBC3 and BBC4 should be on EPG 115 and 116 and should not have to be stored on the "Other Channels "option.

Am curious to know as to what channels appear on EPG 101 through 105. If it is a UK card, it should be BBC1/BBC2/ITV-1/Ch4/Five.

When the FTA card was working 101 to 105 were BBC1, BBC2, ITV West, Ch.4, Ch. 5.
I had an Irish Sky card as well. - With the Sky card in 101 - to 105 were the Irish channels.
Now that I have dumped sky they appear to have screwed the FTA card. No matter what card I put in - or none - RTE1 comes up on 101. I have tried rebooting the box, disconnecting the dish , etc with no success. Anybody with similar problems or any ideas?
    Please!!!

    Hmmm, odd.

OK, what happens if you pull the power cord out, put your card in upside down, put the power cord back in and turn on the box, take out the upside down (FTV) card and put it in the right way up and turn to channel 103?

    Peter,
Was the FTV card you had a V1 or V2 card, because if it was a V1 card your sky sub would have killed it.If it is a V2 card then it should work no problem and bring back up the english epg.If it is a V1 card all will not be lost because it will not be dead,if you know somebody with a V2 FTV card and can get them to lend it to you, stick it in the box then stick ypur own back in and it will work after a certain amount of time.

    Many thanks for your suggestions.
I had Sky for 18months. The FTA card I got about 6 months ago. It has worked perfectly up to last month when I decided to stop my subscription to Sky (my term was up, I now had a free dish + digibox). I assume it is a V2 card. When BBC went free to view I could get BBC1 on Channel 101 and BBC3 on Ch. 161 etc. with NO card.
I have tried everything - even Sceptre's suggestion. I have powered off the Digibox for 2 days, then tried the FTA card and "no card" but I always get RTE1 on Channel 101. I have left the card in for 3 days, power on, and still no success.
Is there anyway to wipe the memory from the box and start from scratch?

So you've tried plugging out the box for 10 seconds, and then powering it up with any old card in it? (A banker's card, for example)

Yes - a Tesco Clubcard to be precise!
I also tried it upside down as well.

The only bit of advice I have left is to try a software download. Plug out the box, and while plugging it back in, hold down the backup button on the box itself for about 10 seconds. Lights should come on and the software will download for about 10 minutes. The try the upside down card trick again with the new software.

If that doesn't work then it seems Sky may have come up with a new dirty tactic.

try doing a new installation by going into the installers menu.

you can do this by pressing 'services' --> '4' --> '0' --> '1' --> 'select', then whatever the number is for 'new installation'. this should scan the satellite and give you the proper EPG for your card.

if that doesn't work I don't know what else to suggest.

Thanks to "Lennoxschips" I now know how to reboot the digibox.
Alas it had no effect - I still have RTE1 on Channel 101.

Glen - I tried a new installation as you suggested - but my box is obviously different - Services --> 4 = System Setup. The options are then numbered 1 to 5 (no '0') There is no section for "New Installation"

None of the boxes have it listed in the menu (it's a hidden installer option) but it does work. Just hit Services 4 0 1 Select (ignoring the screen)and the installer menu /will/ appear

If the card reader switch at back of slot is jammed or faulty the box will ignore all cards and "remember" the irsh card.

Hold the FTV (Please NOT FTA, FTA needs no card) CARD in tight to slot UPSIDE DOWN. unplug mains and plug in again. DO NOT PULL OUT CARD or let go.

Press Power to get green light.

    Do 101 on remote.

IF it is BBC1 GOOD. Redo with card the right way up.

If when you let go of card or always the 101 is RTE than the card slot switch to detect an inserted card may be faulty.

    :D
Thank you Watty & Sceptre. - success at last. I did get the "New Installation" menu up after six attempts - unfortunately it did'nt work.
Watty's suggestion did work perfectly - I now have my FTV card working again with BBC1 as Ch. 101 - I am very grateful to all of you for your help.
If I could ask for one more item????
While I have have all the BBC's and Ch. 103, 104 & 105 are listed in the EPG as ITV, Ch.4, and Five when I select 104 it asks for the new SKY viewing card. ITV2 shows as Channel 226 but I get the same message.
The Rugby World Cup starts next week - I'm getting desperate!!

p.s. It might be an idea to include the answers given in the FAQs section for Sky digiboxes.

ITV2 is a subscription channel. it was never part of the FTV setup

    IF 103, 104 and 105 dont work...

    Either

1 Leave it running and they will (card has missed its keys and takes 2 hours to a day to update) come back.

    Or
    2) It was never authorised for FTV.

    (1) is very likely.

ITV2 and E4 have never been FTV or FTA (as such, some tests of E4 and ITV2 where FTA -- a mistake?)

I'm expecting ITV and ITV2 to be FTA before Dec 2004
