suing the makers of Grand Theft Auto

I was reading the latest headline on the register, and it just stuck with me.

2 lads shot at cars with a rifle, and live ammunition. (The claim is they were acting out a scene from the video game.

and now their lawyer is suing the software makes of Grand Theft Auto, saying they are responsible.

Not the rifle manuafacturers. (I mean does a rifle have any other purpose than to take life?)
Not the parents of the children, who obvioulsy allowed the children to have access to adult rated software, a rifle, and live ammo.

No, the culprits here are the software manufacturers!

I find it crazy that a nation who allow, no encourage the distribution of assault rifles among the general population can then say that the makers of comic book style violence is at fault.

Has i escaped there notice that a rifle and ammo should be a lot harder for children to access than adult software?

Anyone else think this is a complete joke?

it is a complete joke no doubt about it

but it is in the country where fat people can sue macdonalds for selling the fast food

it's in the country where if u break into some1's house and trip on say a skateboard YOU(the robber) can sue them for tripping on their property that you forced entry too.

moral of story some americans are so fúcking dumb

The worst thing about it is that its not just americans. More and more countries are bringing in laws which encourage that sort of crap.

I think this is just being used as a cop out by their parents/the kids/society.

But what if they win? What will happen to games then, or even films? If the courts are cod-winked into thinking a game made you kill, then films and book won't be far off. It's ridiculus.

I hope the judge will tell them where to shove their stupid lawsuit. Remember similiar cases - brough against Quake in the wake of Columbine - failed. And the McDonalds case often quoted as crazy American, also failed....

I wonder if anyone will sue Ted Bundy or Mira Hindley or Professor Moriarty for causing them to be insired to do evil murders in the future. Or crime fiction novels. etc

This is also the case in the UK and Ireland. I am not sticking up for the States but they are not the only country with a stupid legal system.

If these kids are claiming that GTA made them go out and commit crimes, whats going to be next? skater kids sue the makers of Tony Hawk Pro Skater because they cant grind over bus stops? kids sue nintendo because eating fruit doesnt restore health immediately like it does in SSBM?
