Can anyone tell me if/how I can receive these channels?
I tried the info given on the bbc world website but my digibox says 'no channels found'...

Is your dish aligned to 13 degrees east?

(I know you said you tried the info on the site but a few people have asked the question without actually moving their dish. Let's just get the dumb stuff out of the way first)

Hmm, how do I find that out? I'm presuming it's set up ok as i've managed to add all the BBC FTA channels.

Greenman - I know all about footprints and i've seen bbc world working in ROI before, ok?!

BBC Prime and BBC World are not on the same satellite as the regular BBC's that we get on a sky box. In order to receive them you would have to either move your dish (and loose all the usual Sky channels) or get a second dish. I think BBC Prime is a subscription channel. It ternds to show programmes that have already been on BBC1 or BBC2.

if you are tuning in the FTA BBC channels on your digibox then you're dish is pointed at 28.2E so you won't be able to get either BBC Prime or World.you're best bet is to get another dish and put it up at 13E.a 90cm dish would be more than enough to get a signal from 13E

You can't get Prime on a Sky Digibox - firstly the encryption used isn't the same as Sky's, secondly the Sky digibox won't allow you to use a symbol rate of 5632 and lastly the Sky Digibox is designed to receive Sky's service from 28.2 East not 13 E which is where you'll find Prime.

You know all about the footprints but obviously not about aligning a dish.

Sky digital is at 28.2 degrees east, that is where your dish is aligned.

BBC world FTA and Prime subscription are on Hotbird 13 degrees east.

And before you ask its not just a simple matter of (moving your dish to the left!!!) as suggested in an earlier topic, it requires some limited motor skill and a slight bit of patience, preferably you will not move your sky dish seeing as you need this, but try and pick up a cheap one 80 cm will do and have a go its not as hard as installers would have you believe.

less patience needed using an analogue receiver for alligning a dish (providing analogue channels are available, which they are on Hotbird)

The FTA BBC on 28.2 east is better than the BBC Prime on 13E which costs about £80 pa and needs a different satellite receiver to digibox.

IMO BBC World is slightly better than BBC News24. But very similar.

It isn't practical to get BBC World TV on a Digibox , though possible, and of little value as you have News24

It is not possible at all to get BBC prime on a Digibox.

An old Sky analog receiver can get the Analog BBC World, but it too points at the wrong satellite.

You can only enter the following types of channel into the Digbox used for Sky or FTA BBC UK:

    Channels on 28.2 or 28.5 (Astra2A, 2B and 2D and Eurobird)

    Channels with SR = 27,500 or SR = 22,000

Digital MPEG2 DVBs standard "clear" transmission
(NOt MHP, HD, WM9, MPEG4 etc)
    (Not Encrypted)

Any Encrypted channels your Digibox + Viewing Card can decode are already on the EPG.

Only some "CLEAR" / FTA channels are hidden can can be added, and not all of the ones on 28.2, only the correct SR.

Also some "other channels" are on a Central Europe Beam so may too weak on the Sky minidish in UK and esp Ireland.

Why would you want BBC Prime anyway? If you can get BBC1 and 2, UK Gold, etc, then why bother?

There are some good programmes on BBC prime, You also get the chance to see Eastenders a day or two later, (if you like eastenders) also Jools hollands, if you've missed it and at 12am it shows BBC learning there are a lot of good documentaries on that.

    Ha, ha, ha!

Well, viewers of BBC America have just been deprived of EastEnders, which prompted the soap's fans to launch their own website www.bbcamerica.us which got them threatened with legal action. but As the Yanks say, they are 'pissed'- always makes me laugh when I hear them say that!

Well.... say you only ever watched UK Gold, I guess it would be cheaper to subscribe to Prime for a year than Sky's cheapo package....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,445 ✭✭✭✭watty

Cheaper still to have 28.2 and 13E and NO sub.
You won't miss BBC Prime if you have all the other BBCs asnd BBC World

True. Prime was FTA for a few days earlier this year and indeed, there wasn't much worth watching on it. Definitely not worth subscribing to IMHO
