Has anyone noticed that green line on the left side of the screen just before they are going to air a report?
It really bugs the hell out of me. Has anyone a e-mail AD of someone in the know so I can let them know how I feel?

No, but I'll have a look out for it.

Nicely ironic that you of all people should give out about it though.

they got rid of the DOGS quick enough so maybe they do listen to the people who pay their wages. the news looks ok except for the green strip

I cant stand that green line at all. It would look a lot better just without it IMO.

If by "DOGS" you mean the little "RTÉ One" and "RTÉ N2" logos in the top left corner of the screen, then no... they haven't gotten rid of them (Well - I still see them) - which is a shame.

Ah yeah, just saw it there now. It's another lame attempt at creativity by the uninspired RTE graphic design team.
Can you post what you wrote to them?
I hope you made reference to the licence fee increase and queried whether this is what it was paying for. Did you remember to ask them whether they're going to sell off some D4 prime real estate yet?

I mailed RTE about this also and got the standard reply. However today I got a proper reply which I didnt expect:

Thank you for your e-mail in relation to our newly
introduced channel identifiers, also known inhouse
    as ‘bugs’.

This is the first week of RTÉ One and RTÉ Network 2
having on-screen logos for all programmes except News
(which has its own RTÉ News logo) and live sport where
the existing practice of the on-screen RTÉ clock will
    continue.

The channel identifier, is one of a series of actions
designed to position RTÉ more clearly within a
    constantly changing broadcasting environment.

It is unfortunate that you find the ‘bugs’ distracting
and annoying. The translucent design was chosen so that
they would not interfere with viewing as far as
possible, but merely identify each channel more clearly.

We have noted your comments and RTÉ Television
management and the RTÉ Executive Board will be informed
of all public reaction to the 'bugs' over the next
    number of weeks.

Gerard, for your information, you would be amazed at
the number of people who telephone RTÉ looking to buy
copies of TV3 programmes and/or think that TV3 is an
    RTÉ station.

Thank you for taking the time to write and we hope that
you will continue to enjoy the range of programmes that
are being aired as part of the new season on RTÉ One
    and RTÉ Network 2.

    Yours sincerely

    Brigitte

    Hi Ludo,
I think Brigitte was referring to DOGS not that green line on the left side of the screen during the news.

I got this from her today

    John,

Thank you for your e-mail. Your comment has been
forward to the Director of News.

    Kind Regards

The news set is a seems to be similar to the one on the muppet show.

    Sort of wooden set.

My god, but those bugs/dogs or whatever you want to call them are such a pain in the arse! I tried watching 'unbreakable' the other night but those supposedly unobtrusive graphics were just too distracting.

How low an opinion do RTE (and other tv stations) have of us viewers when they feel that we need constant reminding of which station we're watching. I can see the need for this when dealing a viewership composed of goldfish but otherwise am sceptical.

I say less preoccupation with channel identity and more input into channel content!

I can't really see what ye'er all moaning about. These bug/dogs things have been around for ages on loads of other channels and they don't take up that much room. One thing i will say is that they could move it a bit more into the top corner like it is on sky one. I seriously can't see how they could be so distracting, i mean do u just stare at them or what??

I'm talking about the green stripe on the left side of the screen when the news is on. Have you seen it?? Its not needed. The ID's on the top left are another story!!!
