Dead Sky+ (box stuck in standby)

Last night I was watching a program that I was also recording. Everything was working fine, until I decided to change the channel - then I realised the remote was not working. Then I tried to change the channel from the box itself - but none of the buttons were working!

I unplugged the box from the mains for a few minutes at a time several times, but the box would never come out of standby mode when the power was restored. Even holding down the backup key while powering on did nothing.

I tried cycling the power again few times this morning, same problem - stuck in standby. I managed to get the box into 'upgrading system software' mode once, but that didn't seem to help.

Anybody any ideas as to what happened here? It's a Sky+ V1 box that I've had for around 8 months. Any suggestions, or should I just start making funeral arrangements?

My Sky+ locked up as well recently. The romote would not work at all. I ran around the house looking for new batteries and when I finally found some they didn't work either.

I tried to change the channel using the buttons on the box itself but that didn't work either.

Fortunately unplugging the box from the mains and leaving it for a few minutes before plugging it back it seemed to solve the problem. Have not had a problem with it since (about three weeks).

No such luck for me - it's still stuck in standby today.

Although I can get it to go into 'upgrading system software' mode everytime now. It also sounds normal, as you can hear the hard drive whirring away - but it just won't switch on!

    :(
