Sky digital....new to forum

    Hi all,
I am new to the forum so i hope my first question/topic doesn't sound stupid. A few years ago when sky digital was being introducted i signed up for it and got my new dish and decoder. So happy was i, it took me six month to notice that sky were charging me for the digital as well as the analogue service. Contacted them, no joy, stopped paying them anymore(direct debit) solicitors letters from them, phonecalls to accounts department etc.
Upshot being i won't EVER subscribe to sky again. However i still have the decoder and dish so i was wondering if i can get any cards or smart cards that will give me access to any channels i.e BBC'c or the like. At present all i get on the screen is : NO SATTELLITE SIGNAL BEING RECEIVED. Is this something sky have being able to do or just a loose connention?
Anyway i'd be thankful if some one could let me know what to do to get some more channels...living in 3 channel land stinks...living in the country.

your dish could be misalligned or the tuner could be dead

all BBC services are FTA now so no card is needed

    Hi Alan,

Welcome along. You should be getting some channels FTA through your dish including all of the BBC channels, TCM, some music, some news and loads of shopping channels.

You can go into the Services - Setup screen and check the signal from the satellite.

Some will tell you the values you should see, or I will later when I'm near the TV.

    Hi Alan, welcome along,

On the front of this Satellite forum is a thread that describes how to tune into the BBC channels, its step by step, let us know how you get on.

If you get No signal, like the lads have said, the dish could be out a wee bit, and if you get nothing on anything, the tuner could be dead, so a new box. There are alternatives, like picking up a second hand box on the cheap.

even better than a 2nd hand or even new Sky box (if you want to stay FTA) is a FTA box. they can be gotten for relatively cheap these days but be warned no interactive services with one
