    I may regret this...

but Eircom are offering the above for their Broadband service! No connection charges and then €54 a month???

From all I've read, Eircom seem to be pretty reliable regarding pings etc... the 5Gb cap is obviously a drawback, but after months of procrastination I've finally ordered broadband!!!

Am I mad? This offer seems too good to be true....

Well considering IOLBB has the same offer for about a fiver less per month I'd have to say the following about this:
    Am I mad?

    Yes. :p

IOLBB have an 8gb tranfer limit too. I think you should've read both here and IrelandOFFLine before ordering. You would've seen both other users opinions etc and the fact that IOLBB are offering more for less.

On the upside you're getting broadband! No point in getting annoyed about it now. Enjoy it!

Don't have time to write much but yes you are mad your also wrong, your only getting a 4 gig cap. Let me ask you this question did u have a look at any of the other packages around?, obviously not, i think I'll put you in the impulse buyer scheme of things. IOL and UTV are both offering free month, free modem and free install but they have an 8 gig limit and are 49.99 and 47.99 a month respectively. As for pings I can only say for IOL which I have, but i get very simular pings compared to an Eircom connection, maybe slightly worse but hey I pay €5 less per month and get double the cap, so if u think Eircom's deal is too good to be true I'd hate to think what u have 2 say about these 2 offers.

yes, go with iolbb, don't let eircom get your money. Support competion. if they don't reach there 100000 subscribers they must lower the wholesale rate

Ok, slighly off the point (well a fair bit), but is there any great benefit to a fixed IP being offered by UTV? And are UTV any good.

Just a simple question, and not worth starting a new thread about it.

decent enough, don't expect wonders though from any offer, i had eircoms trial when nearly no one was using it, 6 months i think my connection only dropped a hand full of times

But is there an actual benefit? Why would a person want one?

Sorry if I am scalding, but I am about to sign up, once I convince UTV my bloody exchange is ready (area codes and stuff changed on my exchange, and now there checker says that my exchange is not ready, while Eircon say it is), and I just want to sure with the 12 month contract and all

    Cheers for any help

If you have a dynamic ip then you can always use a dynamic dns address such as that offered by no-ip if necessary. You would need either a fixed ip or dynamic dns address to run a mail/web/ftp server.

    And are UTV any good.

Well, for ADSL, their only as good as the Eircom service that they resell. They are a little cheaper, have a larger download cap and far superior customer service record.

Mmmmm - IOL is a USB modem right? And a single IP - does that mean I can't share it ove my network? I've 3 PC's connected and I need to have all fo them able to connect....

I have got an RJ45 modem myself, but according to the IOL FAQ (which I don't believe for a minute) they say you can only connect through one PC.... I'd assume using the RJ45 modem on my router would present no problems?

And yes, I bought on impulse... I knew all the other BB companies offered it cheaper but I didn't even think to look to see if they were offering the free modem, free install option...

thats what a few pints will do to you...

You could set up one of the machine to act as a gateway that provides NAT, firewalling and routing for all 3 machines.

Or you could buy a DSL router for around €80 on komplett, which will do all the above for you.

Whether you should or not is an ethical question ;)

I'm sure you can use a router and share the connection.

Just curious, but any reason why you didnt go with UTV?

I think that'd be my impulsiveness again...
