Emulating Windows games on Linux

A question for anyone who uses/has experience with WineX(a windows emulator, more info at http://www.transgaming.com/) - is it any good?

Basically, I'm getting a laptop soon, don't yet know which model but I intend to install SuSE on it. I don't need windows at all apart from a few windows games (Sim City 4 primarily) that I'd like to be able to play.

    Would WineX do the job?
    Any major problems with it?
Do you know other emulators that could be used to run windows games in linux?

    Thanks!

I have SuSE 8.2 with WineX 3.1 and have no problems running windows games under it so long as they only need DirectX 8.1. DirectX 9 games will play, but badly.

As for Sim City 4 specifically, I havnt tried it but you shouldn't have any problems, infact the only time that I have difficulties is when the game requires multiple disks during playand install, but I belive that point to play has some system to work around the mount issues.

Yeah, I know and it's cool they're making linux versions of games like that.

I've alrady forked out my 60euros foe SC4 windows version though :)

Thanks for all the advice from everyone as well, i'll keep ye posted on what happens once I actually get around to buying my new computer!

You don't need WineX to run everything - indeed Return to Castle Wolfenstein now has a Linux binary. You will need Wine or a Win98/2000/XP PC during the installation to decompress the game files.

That said, WineX is a superb product and transgaming have certainly done a good job.
