His life over the past four decades is a bit of a tale. I don't think I've ever seen anyone enjoying themselves peforming as much as Terry on-stage. Legend he is!

Everyone should own a Terry Callier album" - Gil Scott-Heron
"We need to hear voices like Terry's now more than ever. The essence of soul!" - Tom Findlay/Groove Armada
"Nothing short of magical" - NME.

True soul legend, the wonderful TERRY CALLIER plays Irish show with full band for The Village in Dublin on October 14th '03.

Renowned for the warmth of his live appearances, this date in October will give fans a chance to see Terry up close and personal in the ideal setting of Dublin's newest live venue.

He releases his latest album,'Total Recall', a collection of collaborations (including one co-written with Incognito's Bluey), remixes and original tracks, on the Mr. Bongo label on Friday, October 24th.

Born in Chicago in 1945, three generations of listeners have been turned onto the music of Terry Callier. During the 1960s, recordings for Chess and Prestige made him a leading figure of the early folk boom.

In the 1970s, three records for Chess/Cadet and two for Elektra crystallised his style - a unique brand of soul featuring jazz-influenced compositional structures and themes of social awareness-and gained him an impassioned following among R&B hipsters.

Despite essentially retiring from performing in 1983 to train as a computer programmer and concentrate on bringing up his only daughter, Callier continued composing songs, and in 1991 he received a surprise telephone call from fan, Eddie Pillar, the head of the Acid Jazz label.

Pillar sought permission to re-release Callier's little-known, self-funded anthemic single from 1983, 'I Don't Want to See Myself (Without You)'.

Seemingly overnight, the record became a massive success on the British club circuit, and the singer was soon flown to Britain for a pair of enormously well-received club dates. In the coming months, more gigs followed on both sides of the Atlantic, and in 1996, Callier recorded a live LP, 'TC in DC'.

In 1997, he teamed with Beth Orton, another of his most vocal supporters, to record a pair of tracks for her superb EP 'Best Bit'; the following year, Callier also released his Talkin' Loud debut 'Timepeace,' his first major-label effort in close to two decades.

The title track from the album: 'Time Peace' was chosen by the UN for the Peace Conference and Terry received an award from the UN in February 1999.

'Lifetime' was released in 1999 while 'Alive' (which captured a show at London's Jazz Café in 2000) followed in summer 2001. In the same year, he was also to be heard on much-praised albums by Koop ('Waltz For Koop') and pioneering drum 'n' bass duo, 4-Hero ('Creating Patterns').

His latest album is the widely-acclaimed, 'Speak Your Peace' which features collaborations with 4-Hero and his 'Brother To Brother' duet with Paul Weller.

Tickets for Terry Callier at The Village on Tuesday, October 14th are €25 (inc. booking fee), on sale now from Road Records, Soundcellar, Ticketmaster and usual outlets nationwide. Doors: 8.00pm.
