I have been in contact with Granada television, via their website, and within 24 hours an answer was received. The e-mail was sent on Saturday, and received the reply today ! Amazing.
I have posted only a snippet of the relevant bits.
    Read on :

Thank you for your e-mail. I have spoken to our technical department about your problem. To the best of my knowledge the current situation is that ITV, including UTV
is offically available on Digital Satellite in the UK only.
Viewers in the Republic of Ireland could view via other channels, but this changed in February 2002 and is no longer the case. As things stand, we do not have any control about what SKY transmit, but it has been offically confirmed that
Sky are in negotiations with UTV and ITV for the availablity of their
channel in the Republic Of Ireland.

Offically confirmed I have not heard ITV use this term of reference before... Has anyone else received a confirmation from ITV that talks are in place??

Talks have been taking place for years, there is nothing new in this. Thanks for posting the info.

    Hi Pacman,

I'd like you to send this again at Christmas, and see what responce you get. But it is refreshing to see that they actually know how we received it and the dates of when it was turned off on us!

if that is the case, someone should tell david blaine that the record for doing nothing has already been beaten.

Arggh ... not this again. TV3 is NOT the Irish ITV.

Some of the shows might be the same (Corrie, Emmerdale), but what about the Drama Premieres during the winter, The Bill, M.I.T., xxxxxxxx From Hell, The South Bank Show, sports coverage, Tonight With Trevor mcDonald .... and the likes of Pop Idol (if that's your thing). Are these on TV3? No. Just because Granada own the guts of it, that doesn't make it the same channel.

It was Granada and ITV Network Central that "knocked off" ITV via "other channels" here in Ireland. It is nothing to do with Sky.

They might be negotiating for Family pack in ROI (They would get paid), but I doubt it.

Next year Sky "Negotiations" will be irrelevent. ITV will be FTA by autumn 2004. Maybe!

Interesting that they gave you a response. But I suspect it is ill-informed.

Or A "Touch of Frost" or "Rosemary & Thyme"
    (My favs)

But TV3 is *nearly* the Irish ITV franchise.

Still, it isn't that hard to get free ITV viewing on a digibox.

prime time slots last night on both channels were the same

    7.30 Corronation Street

TV3 and ITV share the soaps and occasional other programming (Cold Feet) for example, however as Buckfast said the majority of ITV's programming is not on TV3.
