I feel sorry for that guys kids...Such a ****ing moron

I couldn't even read through all the replies because I can't tell who is taking the piss, and who is being serious(ly stupid)

I feel that I will regret getting involved in this thread but I have to ask.

Is this a joke or is it for real? The piece itself reads like a carefully and cleverly constructed piece of satire sucking you in further with each of his ten points but many of the replies seem to be taking it (very ) seriously. I don't know who adequacy.org are - the link to the home page is broken.

The saddest thing of all: How many of us who have spent far longer than is healthy wasting our lives in front of a computer screen actually do fit the profile he constructs: changing ISPs, reading William Gibson, a fondness for AMD processors and Lunix (sic). The guy may be raving but he is disturbingly on the ball.

Still the greatest troll on the internet

That page is top class, and the unintentionally brilliant replies from indignant correspondents are superb.
Indeed, computers can be invaded by agents of the Devil.

    Marvellous stuff.

    LOL

BSD, Lunix, Debian and Mandrake are all versions of an illegal hacker operation system, invented by a Soviet computer hacker named Linyos Torovoltos, before the Russians lost the Cold War. It is based on a program called "xenix", which was written by Microsoft for the US government. These programs are used by hackers to break into other people's computer systems to steal credit card numbers. They may also be used to break into people's stereos to steal their music, using the "mp3" program. omg

All u have to do is scim over it to see that it's cod's wallop(?)
what clinched it for me was that they lost the plot when talking about AMD.

    Quote
Do not buy this chip! This is one request that you must refuse your son, if you are to have any hope of raising him well.

    Almost comic

More info on the now defunct (it appears) adequacy.org

    http://www.kyz.uklinux.net/adequacy.php

"Is your son a hacker" is a suberb piece of deliberately provocative satire. Check out the hyperlinks for a further laugh if you haven't already done so.

"If your son has requested a new "processor" from a company called "AMD", this is genuine cause for alarm. AMD is a third-world based company who make inferior, "knock-off" copies of American processor chips. They use child labor extensively in their third world sweatshops, and they deliberately disable the security features that American processor makers, such as Intel, use to prevent hacking. AMD chips are never sold in stores, and you will most likely be told that you have to order them from internet sites. Do not buy this chip! This is one request that you must refuse your son, if you are to have any hope of raising him well. "

    Brilliant!

    And quake:

"Quake is an online virtual reality used by hackers. It is a popular meeting place and training ground, where they discuss hacking and train in the use of various firearms."

lol, great stuff, well worth a read.

This style of humour is very common, and I would have found it hard to believe that there could be so many naive people who would not realise that it was humour. It's not as if there weren't enough unsubtle clues: A parent concerned about whether to spank a child or not does not link to a sexual spanking fetish site in order to impart information on how to discipline a child to other concerned parents.
Rather than make me feel smug at how much more intelligent I am than these people, it just reminds me to be worried that I have to share this world with so many dullards, who unfortunately have as much (if not more) of a say in the running of world affairs as I do.
What is also worrying is that some of these people may already have reproduced.

I was talking about the replies on the adequacy.org website spitting venom and the "computer scientists" and "Linux gurus" who sought to correct his "technical errors".

It has never ceased to amaze me how so many people fail to 'get' satire when they see it. Stop, think, understand.

I ran your post through the "Am I trolling or not" Genie, and it said there was a high probability that you were.
If you would like to discuss whether Americans "get" irony or not, why not do it here!

Oh, and Calibos, now that I am aware of your alter-ego it makes sense. Good man!

Mmm, i worry about this sort of stuff on the NET. For the simple reason that, people who haven't a clue about computers and the NET would read this ****e and believe it.

What was so blatently obvious, was that everything he talked about was familiar in probably every way to the person who was familiar to the NEt. The people reading it being the people who are familiar to the NEt and stuff.

It's so head over arse. It's like not wanting a 17" plasma.

OMG im tired, i need for caffeine
