Does anyone know of any linux training that you can get in Dublin that doesnt cost a fortune?
Something like a weekly meeting group that shows newbies the how to's of linux. ie.. command's and how to run programs and basic network setups and config's that you can do. Not the 2600 meets or anything like that something more hands on.:D

You'll probably get some good pointers to this sort of thing here.

Also if what you require is how-to tutorials, this is probably a good starting point.

Try rute or an IRC channel like #linuxhelp on undernet.org

I'm not sure I subscribe to the (course theory).

Why not try doing some/all of the following.

Setup a Linux firewall and router for your home lan.

On a central Server[2], setup Postfix, with an IMAP server and DHCP coming from that Server to your third box... your main desktop (running Linux or FreeBSD[1]).

Next setup a MySQL or PostgreSQL db on the Server. Install Apache with php (or a LAMP[3]) installation.

Setup some sort of incremental cron to update, say the desktop with security updates and the like here is where the likes of [1] should be interesting (and safe) for you to get your hands dirty with.

[1] Indeed you could use Debian, Gentoo (or apt/up2date on RedHat) or Mandrake for this.

[2] Consider using OpenBSD or FreeBSD for your Central Servers and Firewalls (if confident with the hardware install issues of these Unix variants).

    [3] Linux Apache MySQL Php.

    Payment via the ususal channels.

My old school (www.socc.ie) teaches linux in computer class, and have done since I was there (six years ago). In fact, pretty much every computer in the school runs linux :-D
    Pretty cool, I think!
