Seeing how you mentioned the car free day on Monday, did anybody catch the rep from Reclaim the Streets on radio 1 Friday around 5.30? They are planning on marching in the city centre painting zebra crossings and cycle lanes, and causing some traffic chaos. I got the impression they were hoping some arrests would be made thereby getting themselves onto the 6 pm news. I realise that a weak effort is being made in Dublin by the local authoraties to mark this day, the Garda band is all they've orgainsed but this seems a bit mindless!

    To be honest.

The only decent alternative mode of transport to personal vechicles in Dublin (in my opinon) is the DART.

The bus is bloody slow, since it has to deal with traffic. I hope that a) The LUAS really does get it's link to the airport and b) that the Tram system ends up being on a par with the DART for speed, but is more accessable then the DART (which is no good for locations not on the coast).

Cycling is fine if you live within about 7-15 kilometers of the City Centre, after that, the distances become too great [1].

    [1] Barring anecdotal evidence.
