Been waiting nearly two months for my DSL connection with Netsource. They are blaming Ericom and lack of equipment at Beggars bush. (Dublin 4).

They also say that all other dsl providers are experiencing delays. Well are they? Is anyone haveing the same experience?

Also I see some people are being throttled by netsource. Is that legal when you pay for 512/128 and no cap?

they dont throttle anymore.. they just put you on a 10:1 contention , along with 48:1 contention at the exchange with the heaviest downloaders..

Did they notify you that you were getting put on 10:1 along with 48:1 (is that now 480:1 ??) , or did it just happen?

Is that against the terms of the agreement when you ordered from them?

At what point does is one flagged as a heavy downloader?

    just happened.. no notification..
    dont like it..

    f**k off..

or pay double for another service that has no guarantees of speed either..

b**tards!! bail out now and go with eircoms uncapped if you are planning on downloading over 10 gig, or else get some clear statements of acceptable usage policy before installation..

No, contention doesn't work that way, it doesn't seem that the 48:1 contention is kicking in on the ALT at all, there aren't enough users on each of the ALT's to actually cause the 48:1 contention to actually kick in. Therefore the contention was actually occuring between the Netsource network and the internet at large. This was effecting all their customers, so they seemed to have put the heavy users on a separate Virtual Path and leave them fight it out for the conention at 10:1.

Well if you are willing to pay e205 per month, then yes you can get uncapped.

There are cheaper uncapped services out there, see the bottom of this page for details of all the different DSL services in Ireland:

I had netsource, and they pissed me off too, so I changed to Eircom 1MBit uncapped. Works really well.
Even though it costs 204 a month, atleast I can use the internet any way I feel like now!

    My recommendation, never get Netsource.

Eircom is good as a last option, if you can't get anything else. Eircom are expensive, but they always give you what you pay for.

No, that is wrong, Netsource have a product called SME that matches those specs, but not Eircom, why don't you take a look at the link I posted, it is the IOFFL ISP Price Guide that I helped create, it has all the details you need.

€204 is a big hit though. Well I'll wait and see how I get on with Netsource. At least it's only a 2 month contract.

Sure my work are paying for the line anyway. If it doesn't work out I'll move on. What I didn't want was to be stuck with a 12 month contract.

Cheers for the info guys. (Though still no info on the D4/D2 exchange...)
