When I went to Spain, I was under the impression that my card would work in any pass machine. It didn't work at all. Luckily my Brother's did, because he had a newer card.

You need to make sure there's a certain symbol on the card which allows you use it abroad.

    Hope that helps someone!

And there's more information on what people have found or come across when using bank cards abroad in this thread.

Not necessarily. AIB apparently added the functionality/support before they added the symbol - I've happily used an "unmarked" card abroad.

    But yeah...in general you're right.

There should be a symbol similar to 2 discs in blue and white on the back with the name "Cirrus" beside it. these will work abroad. no hassle getting it just ring the bank and they will give you a new one!
    :D

I used my Aib card In the US no problem, most bank machines will let you do it once it says cirrus on the back of your card you'll be grand. The ATMs state on them if they accept Cirrus cards, so use the ones that have.

ATM's in America are expensive to use. They charge you $1.50 to $3 to use them (even if you have an American Account).

I was in NY maybe it's different somewhere else. But I did use them in Boston also. . . .

Hope that helps you out. . .

    mada!

Ehh, it sais "plus" and "link", no Sirrus. Is that still ok?

That should be ok. Just go to one of the big banks like Chase or Wells Fargo and use their atm.

Those ATMs you find in the shops are ones where your most likely to pay the big fees.

The banks in the US are mad on the old fees, they're big into charging you for everything! Just make sure that you are aware that the American bank will charge you and probably your bank will charge you.
