We did this a while back... but it's been a while so what's your system?

    Here's mine:

    DVD Player: Pioneer DV636D
    AMP: Marantz SR5300 (6.1 DTS-ES)
Speakers: Mission cinema 9 (with 2 extra rears for full 6.1 setup) with Wharfdale passive sub.
CD player: Marantz (not sure of the model - budget model)

I love the SR5300. Superb for home cinema and music which is rare in the AV range.

    At the moment i've got:

Yamaha AX396 Stereo Amplifier (60W RMS / Channel)
    Sony CDP-CE375 CD Multi-Changer
Wharfedale Valdus V100 Speakers (180W Peak Handling)

Soon to be added is a Pc-Based MP3 player which will be built from the remains of a P2-400MHz PC.

    Hi Red-Alert
Why did you mention the handling power of the speakers ?
What does that suppose to say about how they sound ?
    Thanks
    Martin

My main listening setup is in my sig, cost more than my 5.1 setup... on a bit of a headphone fad at the moment, the x-can/580 combo really sings, although gonna try tuberolling the x-can in the next month or so for a bit of fun and experimentation :)

5.1 setup is coming upto 2 years old now, was originally purchased on a pretty tight budget, will be changed to a decent stereo system shortly as I rarely watch DVDs anyway..
marantz sr4200, cyberhome adl-528, revolver purdys as fronts (not too shabby for the price), revolver 80s as rears (pretty poor), and some wharfedale modus centre.

DVD players connected via s-video to a Sharp PG-M20 DLP projector, the screen is a no-name thing I picked up second-hand.

Have a pioneer pd207 (cd player just used for MD recording) and an unused wharfedale modus sub (passive) lying around as well.

    Yamaha RX-V640 receiver
    Pioneer DVD-535
    Tannoy Mercury M2 mains
    Wharfedale Diamond Pro rears
JPW (Non) Centre (e.g. just a magnetically shielded bookshelf speaker - needs to be replaced)
    Panasonic PT-AE100 projector
Shuttle 420gb mp3 jukebox / DVR - digitally connected to the Yamaha through Toslink

Thinking of replacing the Wharfedale rears with cheap Eltax bipolars from RS so that I can use the Wharfedales on a second system (with a Sony STR-DE445 receiver) - opinions welcomed (the Wharfedales weren't made as surrounds but rather as bookshelf speakers).

I'd highly recommend the Mission 77DS rears. I have 4 of them. Bipole speakers so the sound effect is wrapped around your ears. Not too fusy about placement either.

Hoping to relace the Dvd Player and Video with the Panasonic E100 HDD/DVD Recorder in a few months. Also hoping to purchase a Dell Axim PDA to use as a colour TouchScreen universal remote to replace the 6 remotes currently in use! Hmmmm....A Colour Philips Pronto for €900 or an Axim for €300. Tough Decision!! :D

Nice system Calibos! I like the way you've made some attempt to hide your sytem cables too.

IMO you could be missing the most important part of a home cinema - a good sub. Just a thought.

Regarding that Panasonic HDD/DVD player, I looked into getting one recently for a client but we ended up dropping it cos the output is only RGB and all our switching and routing to the projector was in Component. Now I know it is possible to get a transcoder to convert the signal, but these tend to be professional video products and are priced accordingly. Obviously if you are running RGB to the projector, no problem!

Also, I have to say, as much as I hate the pronto I do keep going back to it. I did try a Palm PDA once as a universal remote on a job and it was ok but really poor compared to a pronto. Do you have to have colour? Would something like a Pronto Neo not do it for you? Just for interest, take a peek at the soon to be released Home Theater Master MX-3000 - this looks like a Pronto Pro killer!

Anyway, good luck with your upgrades!!

Martin: I wasn't making any sound quality judgment with it - i just found when searching for speakers that it's helpful when people put in the power rating so i'll avoid picking something that'll get destroyed! ;)

    Also - what a setup you've got - well done! :)

Looking at your picture, I don't see any cables.
What the story, did you take the photo before you ran them or have you some fiendish way of hiding them?

    Thanks RedAlert,
The Power handling figure of the speakers is one big bull****e as it doesn't say anything about anything.

Are you aware that most of the time you use maybe 1-3 Watts of your amp ?

If you want I can calculate it very easily for you.

PS my whole stereo setup is about to change very soon (speakers and amplification). for more details visit the forum in my signature.....;)

    Samson.
The apartment was bought unfurnished and I had the idea to turn that little area into a home cinema so I lay the cable before I put in the floor.

The cable runs around the ouside of the room in a plastic conduit under the floor and comes out through gaps in the beading.

Sean... apologies for the delay in replying.... The cheapest I could find the amp was http://www.avland.co.uk. I ordered from there & had no problems.

As for floorstanders I personally have mission 773E's and I cannot fault them.

I know your in Galway so if you want a demo of the speakers/amp let me know.
