Anyone else having problems with clicksilver the last few days ?

Its been really brutal for me , tried loads of fixes but its still the same , and early on or late at night its not too bad so I presume this would show its not a problem at my end , this started in the last few days .

if anyone else is experiencing the same could the plz post it in the newsgroup cause the support guys there said they weren't hearing of much problems .

    John.

    John,

I did not want your post to be lonely so I just thought Id say I told you so but you were too busy in the group hug to listen.

It seems to me that they are in some form of denial the moment - all the problems seem to be ours on an indivicual basis they arent responsible at all! It is patently clear from the postings in the support group that there is something seriously wrong with their xl product - how many times over the past few months have you read about someone ringing in 30 and 40 times to get through while they can connect to other isp's no problem

When I was on UTV vip I would have recommended them unreservedly to anyone (and did so several times - and was very anxious to get broadband from them becuase of the VIP being so good) but now I would not in conscience recommend them to anyone would you?

    Hi

I'm on clicksilver and having all the problems quoted on the 'huge delays when surfing' thread, as well as occasional disconnections. The delays have been getting worse over the last few days, to the point of being seriously annoying. When I signed up for broadband forty-seconds-plus waiting for pages to load wasn't what I had in mind.

How do you access the utv support group?

It's been a bit manky here too for the last few evenings.

Lots of disconnects (just had one 2 minutes ago) and sluggish opening of webpages.

Has it rained heavily in your areas lately?

If so it might be the copper getting wet. Has heppened me on a few occassions.

Most problems like this happen because of problems with the line.

Hardly rained at all here for the last few days .

yes i've been having problems too. The problem is that i've been trying to download the same file on 3 different sites (its around 350mb). Now because it takes 2 hours to dload, i start the download in the morning come back after school and i always get the same message "connection has been reset with server". I got that 3 times on 3 different servers. Im also wasting my cap!!!

To get the utv support group you will have to add the utv news server to your newsreader programme

just add news.utvinternet.com and you should be able to access it.

No probs here either... 'cept the high-for-DSL pings of ~90ms.

    Where is 'here'?

Thanks Dub45 - I'm now seeing on the utv support group that I'm not alone

Slightly off topic, but you should use something like getright, then you can just resume your download from where ever it stopped.

You are very welcome now that you have access to the group make sure and post your problem/

I am a constant moan there :) I post as SF

I hope you get an improved connection.

by the way have you tried www.bandwidthplace.com or

    www.giganews.com to test your speed?

not to mention utv's own speedtest www.u.tv/speedtest

I find that the bandwidth and giga are usually pretty similear I usually get just below 200 on them while i get a much higher one from utv for some reason I find that my speed has fallen recently to that 200 figure I used to get a higher fig from bandwidth place but have not got much above 400 at any stage.

I have to say i havent had any problems with Clicksilver since i got it (probly will after this post though) :(

Well besides not knowing how much ive downloaded. The bandwidth monitor i had running reset on me for no reason and UTV's bandwidth thing gives figures that cant possibly be right. Higher upload than download, dont think so. download of 2.3 m/bs this month. Course if thats what they think thats all im after downloading theyre welcome too :)

My connection has practically ground to a halt over the last 24 hours.

    Speedtests : 11.15 am today -

    dslreports: 63 kbps
    u.tv speedtest (x3) : 69, 57, and 37kbps

    2.00 pm -

dslreports: waited and waited and eventually gave up
    u.tv speedtest (x3) : 53, 106, and 95kbps

I've been working through various possible fixes with no success. There seems to be no end of possible reasons for the lousy speeds, maybe the rain of the last couple of days has really got into the system now? Whatever the problem is, this is rubbish 'broadband'.
Anyone else on the Dunlaoire exchange having similar problems?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51 ✭✭huberto

Last night I installed and ran spyhunter, and this morning did more speedtests

    u.tv (x3) : 376, 336, and 353kbps

Maybe sheer coincidence, but that'll do nicely whatever the reason for the improvement. Just hope it lasts.

The UTV is consistently higher than the others because 'its only one hope away'. I received this answer from Carl on the support group.

As a matter of interest what sort of speeed did you get from your modem before DSL? Did you ever have any suggestions of line problems?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51 ✭✭huberto

I had isdn. Speed was always fairly consistent and pretty much what I expected so it wasn't really an issue. Cost was more the problem. BB's obviously great when it works - far better on both counts - but for me at least it's been a bit dodgy so far.
