Installation without the viewing card

    Hello all,

We're due to get out system installed today but as of yet we have not received out viewing card :(
Anyway, I rang Sky and they told me the engineer would install the system without it but my girlfriend, who will be at home when it's being installed, was talking to the engineer this morning.

He rang to let her know when he'd be there and he asked if we had our viewing card yet. She gets the impression that he won't install it without the viewing card.

    Can anyone clarify this ?

We had a box put in last week. The engineer ordered the card, when we received same we rang him and he came and carried out the installation. I presume this means they don't have to come back a second time.

It can in theory be installed without a card. And card "authorised" by yourself when it comes. A simple phone call to Sky or automatic via Services 4 0 1 Select NewInstall (hidden menu).

Obvioulsy a new install works fine with FTA channels. An existing FTA digibox can have a card added later. Done it a couple of times.

Maybe they'd be worried about not getting paid by Sky. They could install the box without the card but if you never had your card activated, then they would be out of pocket as Sky wouldn't compensate them for the digibox (which is paid in full by installers initially).
