E4 and its stupid crap

Ok, when E4 came onto terrestrial tv first, i was happy. It had some promosing stuff, along with repeats of C4's best stuff. Granted it had its crap too, but it was pretty darn good as far as regular tv channels go.

However, we were forced to put up with constant BB last year, which i endured, as I knew there was a light at the end of the tunnel. and how. we had teachers, Bo selecta, six feet under, and if you were looking for smut you had shock video....

this year, BB returned, and i expected to be forced into the same cycle, but I was expecting to find the light soon. No. After BB, which was a reletive flop compared to previous years, they decide, in their wisdom, to air BB USA, once again, around the clock..... quite a stab in the chest. But, things were begginning to look up as the show finished off, My New Best Friend put a new spin on both the gameshow and a fly on the wall documentary, and more recently the pilot show poked fun at this brainless reality culture we've been pushed into. And then, to my heartache, as BB:USA is close to its finish, The Salon gets a new series, and, youve guessed it, its live, all day, everyday. To add salt, we have to put up with BB:USA AND the salon for a week or so, as things are wrapped up across the sea.
So I put this to you... E4, one of the most promising things to happen to the basic NTL package, has dumped inventive, funny, witty and thought provoking TV for brainless, cheap and mundane reality TV which should be well dead by now.
Ive attatched a poll to see who agrees, and I intent to write my complaint to E4, not that it will help, but just so they know... I hope others will do the same, and maybe, just maybe, it may work and reality TV will be cut back to once a year, or perhaps, god willing, put down.

    Thanks,
    Flogen

cant say a word against E4, theyre showing the new series of Six Feet Under.

(if it wasnt for all that God awful big brother crap it would be a fairly decent channel though...)

I agree. Six feet under is the best program on TV at the moment.

So you don't like what's on the TV? Try the OFF button, it's the most underused button on the remote control.

The mind boggles as to the number of people who post about how bad a certain channel is,........

I mean, do they come around to your house, tie you to a chair, prop your eyelids open with matchsticks and force you to watch their channel ????

The answer is NO , of course. So get over it, watch another channel.

I myself quite like it for west wing, ER etc...

I suggest you get out of the house a bit more - getting upset over a TV channel

I wish people would read this. No one is making you watch all the programs which you have declared to "brainless cheap and mundane". You'r in a considerable minority though, as TV stations aren't in the habit of making things the public don't like, and watch (except if your RTE :p)

If you don't like it, switch off and go do something less boring instead

Has anyone heard of E4's new channel?
    It's called E4+2 or something.
All the same T.V. only it's two hours behind E4.
They say it's so that if you miss what you were looking for, it'll be on again in two hours!!!!
Whatever next? 60 channels, have them showing the same shows one minute apart. That way you can rewind or skip the boring bits!!!!! (and there's a lot of those on E4)

Reality TV producer will be the first against the wall when the revolution comes.

It does show The West Wing, 6 Feet Under and ER.

Just dump the crap, BB/Salon/anything with B rate uk celebs.

There's an idea there for a reality TV show.

What annoys me is that NTL replaced Eurosport to give us the wonder that is E4

Hang on a minute, isn't this the television board? Isn't this a place where people can discuss television stations and programmes? Isn't it a forum for criticial review? Isn't one entitled to voice an opinion about a station or a programme?

Of course we know you can switch it off, that's not the point. This is suppsoed to be a place for discussion. Are people suggesting only threads endorsing programmes or stations be posted? Get a life; just because you can't form a critical opinion yourself doesn't mean others shouldn't voice theirs.

The post was originally in After Hours actually. Monty moved it to television. At least try and figure out whats going on before wading in with size 13 boots

Critical review - ah yes. Now the original post was of the "all reality TV is **** and E4 shouldn't show because I don't like it" vein. That isn't a critical review, that's just plain daft. By all means voice an opinion, but don't try and be the "voice of the people" and speak as if everyone feels the same.

    a) E4 need to fill their schedule and attract advertising, which stuff like the streaming of BB/BB USA and The Salon does.

    b) These programs wouldn't be produced if thwey weren't popular. If they are popular, E4 are perfectly right to show them - see a)

It's very much the point. TV lives and dies by how many people view a program and/or channel.

No one suggested that only endorsements be posted.

As for your personal insults, well "whatever". It speaks volumes that you think they make any valuable contribution to discussion.

So what......you want there to be endless posts along the lines
    of:
    I don't like TV3 'cos.....blah........blah
    or
    I don't like ITV 'cos.....blah....blah ???

    Hardly conducive to "critical opinion".

I would love to know who the f**k would get up at 8am to see a bunch of BB prats in bed asleep??? Why broadcast something if nothing is happening. Have repeats of Father Ted or something but nto this BB BS!!

Could someone please explain to me what the hell The Salon is all about? Is it a game? Is it a competition to see who's the best hair dresser or is it as I fear a pointless show where members of the public get to appear on TV with absolutely no constructive point to it? I really can't make head nor tail of the damned thing and it's starting to do my nut in. I don't think I've ever seen anything as vapid and soul destroying as that show, even Big Brother was better.

It's called E4+1, and repeats the E4 broadcasts 1 hr behind. A lot of digital channels have the same thing. It's actually quite handy.

Suggesting that they might have "60 channels, have them showing the same shows one minute apart" is just stupid (even if you were being sarcastic).

The channel can earn extra revenue from spot advertising without the cost of paying for new programming. All they have to do is pay for more transponder capacity and the extra EPG listing with SKY.

BTW: I HATE the Salon with such a passion that I get irritated even thinking about the pointless crap, and the idiots who are on it, and the losers who watch it.

E4 didn't replace Eurosport. It replaced that French channel (thank god).

CNBC replaced Eurosport for some strange reason.

But E4 is a great channel it aired the brilllianttt BB then the bestest ever BB: USA and now its airing the shows that deserves millions of awards called the Salon.

If RTE had this channel I'd pay 10 times more money for my TV license because I believe its worth every penny and more.
Such good quality programming its just a crime....

    :p  :D

Never watch it except if I flick over and find Father Ted
on, The salon defies any reason to exist but then the same can be said of most telly....trouble with the Salon is that it promises more voyuer oppotunities than it ever delivers ;)

How anyone could be arsed watching Big Brother that happened 15 minutes previously and is cut for about a third of the running time beats me.
I agree with Bloggs-repeat shows into the night rather than night vision cameras showing people having a kip. They used to show programmes they showed earlier later at night. It was handy for me when they repeated the Sopanos on a Friday at 10. If I was out they were usually repeated around 2-2:30 time which was well handy if i got home in time. Nowadays all they have at that time is Big Brother USA AFAIK.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,872 ✭✭✭segadreamcast

E4 show nothing at night now - it's stupid. Their BBUSA live coverage has diminished rapidly since the salon started... now their programming on a saturday doesn't start until 2pm, or some other such ridiculous time.

Ah, fond memories! TV had a much innocent sence of humour back in the '80's. These days some TV exec would probably have a heart attack if a show was allowed to air with that message in it's opening credits.

LOADS of channels on Sky Digital have a +1 channel. A lot of the documentary channels have it, as do some of the tabloidy crap like bravo and living TV.

e4 is a good channel though..... Father Ted re-runs never lose their charm. Sex and the City is v good....as are the West Wing, Six Feet Under and Bo Selecta is class. Be thankful for it too - all Channel 4 seem to show these days are feckin property programmes like Location Location Location etc. Getting well bored of them. Big Brothers okay cos its only 9 weeks out of the year ... the salon is pointless I will totally agree there. BB USA is okay as well but not this live coverage crap.... if theyre gonna show it, a twice weekly highlights show is surely enough.

On the whole though its a good channel. It has ould Friends on it too.....

Just an awful shame it wastes a whole hour on the Dawsons Creek bollocksology.......
