    Whatcha think of them?
Horrible looking IMO. I see that France, England and New Zealand have them now, but I would'nt like to see Ireland adoptiing them.

I was watching the Eng-France game and I was bloody disgusted - they're the kind of thing you'd expect from the Italian soccer team.

Although if it does stop or reduce the grabbing it's good, no? Haven't seen them, are there any pics?

    It is what it's.

They are harder to grab a hold of, it's more for the purpose they serve then trying to look good.

Personally I'm not mad about them.

do they not hold less water as well? i.e sweat. In a lot of sports the quick wicking fabrics keep players/athletes fresh for longer, somthing the old style rugby jerseys couldn't be accused of!!

Are you sure that New Zealand are after getting one of the tight jerseys cause the tight ones are made by Nike and New Zealand jerseys are made by Adidas

Well the NZ have a sort of tight jersey anyway.

The english jersey looks frigging horrible, France looks fine though.

Part of the professional era surely. Its an advantage not to be lugging an extra couple pounds of soggy cotton for 80 minutes. Cant see why there should be such uproar.

New Zealand have being using them for the last 2 years now as far as i know with grip as the frount design for the high balls in wet conditions that you don't drop the ball

    Hi lads

    as per the irfu site

Ireland to be Fitted With The 'Jersey of Champions.'

Canterbury of New Zealand have unveiled a revolutionary new jersey that will give the Irish rugby team, Scotland and Australia a competitive edge at the Rugby World Cup (RWC) in Australia next month.
Canterbury of New Zealand commented that this flagship garment - The Jersey of Champions - is a result of more than two years of research and development and utilises an innovative fabric that makes the jersey significantly lighter and stronger.

Canterbury of New Zealand’s brand new fabric, created through using patented technology from DuPont Textiles and Interiors combined with Canterbury’s existing Temex® fabric, means the new jersey is 25% lighter than its slim-fit predecessor and 10% stronger.

Canterbury of New Zealand are proud sponsors of five of the 20 teams competing at the RWC – Seam-lines, which have been minimised to ensure fewer stress points on the garment, have been positioned to enhance ease of movement and reduce irritation.

The loop neck construction (a Canterbury of New Zealand tradition) has evolved to offer less material for opponents to grab, but will ensure good air circulation through the chest area and aid in the cooling of the body.

The different requirements of forwards and backs have been taken into consideration in the jersey design. Reduced stretch through the waist/hip area of the jersey will make tackling the Irish team more difficult.

Ireland and Ulster fly-half David Humphreys stated he is looking forward to playing in the new jersey at the Rugby World Cup.

"It's going to be hot during the Rugby World Cup, much hotter than the temperatures that we usually play in, so at least now with the new jersey, keeping cool will be less of an issue," Humphreys said.

"The new jersey is very light and comfortable and it’s a great design. It’s harder for your opponents to grab you, but it still looks more like a traditional rugby jersey.

"We've got the best playing gear for the Rugby World Cup...now we just want to get out there and play."

An image of Moss Keane in one of these just crossed into my minds eye. For that you will never be forgiven greg_ f. Now if noone mentions Clohessy we may all get out of here with some shreds of our sanity still intact

New Zealand and Adidas have being developing a new jersey for the world cup since Janurary. They wore it in the tri-nations and also in the matches against France, England and Fiji in June/July.
They had real problems with it at first and 3 of their players jerseys fell to peices in one match with hard tackles!

Big uproar in New Zealand at the time over it (I was there at the time :) )

Either way the new jersey is Tighter for the backs then the forwards. almost skin tight actually.

    The new Ireland jersey.
Good to see Ireland going with the big boys and not being last on the wagon as is usually the case.

Speaking as the typical beer bellied supporter, I don't think so. I suspect the supporters jersey will still be available in a standard fit.

I do have to say that in the France England game they did look like nonces - but I do appreciate the harder to tackle bit

I think the new Tight Jerseys are brilliant, it makes you more aerodynamic, no more jersey grabbing pussy bastards, They are cool which helps on hot days and are strong and nearly guarnteed not to rip. I have tried out the new, New Zealand jersey and its nice and tight and works wonders, hell u look like a ponce but if its worth an extra E50,000 cuz ur playin well i know which jersey ill be wearing. Oh yea u can get them in elverys for E100 i think.
