A somewhat dumb security consultant who alerted a TV station to a Wi-Fi security hole in a medical facility's records system faces criminal charges...!

I think I'm an Ethical Hacker be nice to me....

At the very least you should inform the people who have the security problem. Only if they ask for a demonstration should you with their consent try to connect to the network.

Even if someone leaves the front door of their house open, it is not an invitation for strangers to enter thier house and have have a root around. - If you are truly a concerned neighbour - ring the bell, if no one is home then call the keyholder / relevant authorities.. If you shout out down the pub that No. 5 the Crescent, can be burgled - then you are part of the problem..

If we changed this guy’s job title from “security consultant” to locksmith (ie the more traditional view of security).

While cruising around downtown he finds a bank with crappy door locks, gets his tools and does the equivalent of a WiFi drive by intrusion to get inside the bank and into the strong room. Inside he takes photographs of documents and piles of cash in the strong room and sends the photos to the local TV station.

    1) Would the victim bank employ this guy afterwards to beef up their lock system?

    2) Would other businesses in the city use this locksmith’s services after seeing how he broke into a bank?

If this guy was looking for self-publicity to promote his consulting business.....!

Perhaps he thought that no publicity is bad publicity and the medical centre would thank him:)
