Recommended MAME games?

i've just got into this MAME thing and was wondering what games people would recommend?
and also if you can remember the name of a fantasy game that was out in the arcades about 8 years ago, it was a isometric fantasy game but it had different routes you could follow and when you finished playing it gave you a code so you could start playing from where you left off

I liked the super sidekicks series.
Then try puzzle bobble, bubble bobble and pang!
Most of the CPS2 games are worth a play as CPS1.
Then the classics Pacman, Space Invadsers etc.

And then not forgetting Street Fighter 2 (there's loads of different hacks and everything.)

That's all I can think of at.
I'm sure the other regulars will be able to name loads more.

I like Yie Ar Kung Fu, Matmania, StreetFighter 2, Goldenaxe, Black Tiger, ghosts'n'goblins, ghouls n ghosts, amidar, I could name names for hours.

Of course, I have every single one of them up to the Mame 0.69 release, about 3300 in total. Never get through them all.

Psycho Nics Oscar - good but difficult. Major Title 1+2 - excellent golf games, R-Type - greater shoot em up.

Simpsons arcade (especially in 4 player), Final Fight, Contra, Super Contra, Haunted Castle, Hyperduel, R-type 1, 2 and Leo, In the Hunt, Wild West Cowboys of Moo Mesa, Metal Slug 1, 2 and X, Outrun, Mercs, Sunset Riders, Nemesis, Salamander, Gradius 1+2, Knights of the Round....

Ran out of steam. Theres loads more I could mention if I had the gamelist in front of me.

Special mentions to: Street Fighter 2, Ghouls n' Ghost and Ghosts n' goblins.

King of the fighters '94, fighters history and if you're machine can handle it NBA Jam Hangtime. Sweet Also the old classics I'm always playing, Bubble Bobble, Super Sprint, Badlands, Puzzle Bobble, Out Run, Splatterhouse, Strider (may not emu'ed by mame), snow brothers, tumblepop, super pang. The list goes on and on.

Strider is emulated by mame and callus. And it's still spanking great.

I have very fond memories of D&D: Tower of Doom in the arcades, and I think it's available somewhere for MAME. You get to smack kobalds about. What could be more fun?

Metal Slug and all it's sequels. You've have to drop neogeo.zip into your roms folder though.

what is cps1+2?

i think my machine can handle NBA Jam, 2700+ 1 gb ram 9700 pro

Your Radeon 9700 will do nothing for mame, you may as well have a Voodoo1. Mame likes CPU speed, the higher the better, GFX card doesn't come into it, the emulation engine is handled by the PC. There are some optimisations in some later games to get GFX cards to handle some effects, but in general it makes no difference to the game.

CPS 1+2 is the name of the hardware that capcom used for their arcade games. You can kind of tell from the graphics which are which. CPS1 has graphics of SF2 quality while CPS2 games have the graphics quality of SSF2 and the alpha games.

Get all the Capcom, Sega and Konami games you can get. You can't go wrong with those three companies.

Thanks for that mate, but mame.dk don't actually have any roms for the last couple of years. All the info is still up there though, which makes it a great reference point.

If you are into SNK fighting games, you might want to give last blade 1+2 a go. both are neo geo games. Pulstar is an excellent R-Type sort of game, and you should also try and find the 2D Dynasty Warriors game. There was a a decent D&D beat em up as well, Tower of Doom I believe. Of course, get all the metal slugs as many others have recommended, they are most excellent.

Any of the above mentioned games are all worth getting as is the brillaint Sunset Riders! I love that game so much it isnt natural.
