Th Death Penalty

    Hi Folks,

I read on another post that some people wanted to bring back the Death Penalty.
In response to that i would like to point out a few issues of which you may not be aware of.

    1. The Death Penalty is the only thing the USA has in common with China, Pakistan, Iran, Saudi Arabia & Afghanistan.

    2. The USA have executed more Juveniles than all of the above countries above. You can be tried for a capital offence at age 16 in the USA.

    3. 83% of capital cases involve white victims, even though only 50% of murder victims are white.

    4. Since 1973, over 80 people in the USA have been released from death row with evidence of their innocence.

    5. In Texas, a death penalty case costs an average of $2.3 million, which is about three times the cost of imprisoning someone in a single cell with the highest level of security for forty years.

    6. United States president George W Bush sanctioned 153 executions in Texas during his term as governor.

    7. 5 countries since 1990 are known to have executed prisoners who were under 18 years old at the time of the crime - Iran, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, USA and Yemen. The majority of known executions of juvenile offenders was in the USA (6 since 1990).

    8. THE ATTACHED IMAGE (Of a botched execution)

Cruel and unusual punishment. You decide for yourself.
Blood poured from the chest and mouth of convicted killer Allen Lee Davis as he was electrocuted early Thursday in Florida's first use of its new electric chair. Davis let out two muffled screams from behind a chin mask after four guards strapped him into the electric chair. As the 2,300 volts of electricity began to surge through the metal cap on his head, Davis jerked back against the oak chair, his fists clenched.

Davis, at 350 pounds, was one of several large inmates whom prison officials considered last year when they replaced Florida's infamous 76-year-old electric chair known as "Ol' Sparky'' with a near-replica that has been tested to withstand heftier inmates.

    Rabies,

I agree it is a shocking picture. The electric chair is now outlawed in Florida as a direct result of this picture being leaked to the public.

They now use lethal injection as their sole means of execution.

The attached picture was taken just after the execution.

Try this link for more information on Bothced Executions.

if you would like to start a discussion about the death penalty then it would be more suited to the Humanities board. If you are going to post up links to a site that shows pictures like that then you should give a warning to people that may be offended by pictures of dead people.

    Thanks for the heads up.

I am a newbie here so not quite sure about the posting tactics.

If you are ever in Limerick i will gladly show you my knife collection (LOL).

    Moderator,

IF MY POST IS IN ANY WAY OFFENSIVE PLEASE REMOVE IT.

Sorry for any inconvenience. I just wanted to get my message accross.

I think the contents of the pictures was implied well enough by the content of his post. People don't need their hands held all the time.

    8. THE ATTACHED IMAGE (Of a botched execution)

So, what would be the point in him putting a warning in if you wouldn't read it?
